This scene does not exactly play out how I remembered it, and I'm going to need more time to think about what I want to say.
What I will say is there's a much longer post about how Jimmy's relationships with "sweet" old ladies serves as a barometer for his morals, I should probably write.
But BCS ret-cons this guy into someone who seems (A) a lot more competent and (B) someone with more of a personal stake in the concept of "speedy justice", so it comes across as slightly more likely he is sincerely interested in exaggerating a client's injuries to stick it to Boeing, than he is just wasting this poor lady's time and money. Not that I'd actually put it past Saul to drag out a class action suit when that's the exact sin Howard died for. Maybe all this business with the neck braces is just theater when he knows he can't win this fight. Maybe he really has become that big of a hypocrite. But my original point was going to be that assuming he was taking the lawsuit against Wayfarer seriously, forging doctor's notes to bleed a genuinely negligent airline company for extra money is cool and based.

I absolutely your Robin Jason headcannons, do you have any more? Maybe some Red Hood ones as well?
!!! im so happy to be getting these asks this is so fun
More Jaybin hcs (part one here):
He has a bunch of 1960s style clothes because Rena likes dressing like a mix of Amy Winehouse and Twiggy
baby goth in the making thanks to Natalia. she gives him a collection of Edgar Allen Poe's poems and he's just hook, line, and sinker into the subculture
He usually listens to metal bands but his guilty pleasure music is slow ballads and gayboy pop (think Kevin Atwater and Troye Sivan)
His favorite rogue to fight is KGBeast because of sentimentality, since KGB is the first rogue he ever defeated as Robin
He has pimples on his thighs and neck but somehow never on his face
He hates having his nails painted because of sensory issues, but lets Rena paint them anyway
His favorite of Dick's teammates is Vic, because he let Jason watch him fix one of Kori's alien weapons once, and he's super patient and kind and answers all of Jason's questions
Red Hood hcs:
Still mostly listens to metal but his favorite band is Rainbow Kitten Surprise (his favorite song is Finalist)
He has a journal where he writes shitty, angsty poetry with a fountain pen
He can never quite resist petting dogs during patrol, so there are multiple pictures online of Mafia Boss Red Hood playing with civilian's puppies
Has a tattoo of a wilded rose on top of his batarang scar to hide it. It's corny and ugly as hell but that was kind of the point. After he starts dating Rose he tells her it's because they were destined to meet. She gags every time
full-fledged romantic goth now. I'm talking manic panic white base, big eyeliner, and fake fangs. I'm talking huge messy hair with about a ton of hairspray. I'm talking "hates that every goth clothing he can find has bats on it"
His main mug is one of those corny millennial "don't talk to me until I've had my coffee" ones that Roy got for him during the outlaws. Jason uses it ironically but Roy thinks he also finds it funny
Sometimes when he's feeling nostalgic Jason will lay down on a rooftop and try to find where Oa is up in the sky, because he and Kyle looked for constellations together during Cosmic Mistake
Contrary to popular belief, his favorite superhero isn't Wonder Woman, it's Black Canary. Which is too bad because she hates his guts
Sent Sasha to live with an ex-con he trusted in South Dakota. He still sends her gifts often but they don't talk anymore since they realized how bad he was to her mental health
Deathstroke's #5 hater. Loses only to all 3 Wilson children (minus Res), Cassandra Cain, and Oliver Queen
Really wants to meet Connor Hawke because he was actually being genuine in GA Vol3 when he told Ollie he'd always wanted to meet him, and has since really really wanted to meet all of the Arrows even though none of them like him. He's the world's worst fanboy
Will do anything Talia asks of him but spits on Ra's face if he so much as looks in Jason's direction
Calls Damian "little prince" in Arabic (Amir Le-Zghir) specifically because of the book, but ALSO because it was what Willis called him when he was a child
Duke is his favorite bat because he isn't afraid to make fun of Jason, gets into a shit ton of trouble, and swears around Bruce like it's nothing
Whew, I think that's enough for a single post. Still have a lot more though lmao

The Only Antidote is a Kiss
Summary:Â Scarecrow always did come up with the most whacky chemical formulas to test on people. Red Hood gets dosed with his latest toxin, and the only way to cure it is with a kiss. The only candidate? Long time rival and almost enemy, Ladybird.
____________________________________________________
âNo,â Red Hood said, resolutely. âNo way in hell.â
Red Robinâs exasperated voice crackled over the comm. âHood, if you donât, youâre going to die.â
âDo you think I care? Death is better.âÂ
âI would say thatâs insulting if I didnât feel the exact same way.â Ladybird nonchalantly twirled a yoyo at her side. âBesides, ten minutes is plenty of time to get him someone else.â
âYou two are in the middle of nowhere. Itâs thirty minutes to the nearest city.â
âYeah, but the suburbs are always an option. You Bats always seem to miss the obvious solution.â
âIâm not kissing her,â Red Hood repeated.
âI know that you two areâŠâ Red Robin tried to find a more delicate way to word their relationship, âNot always on the best of terms, but you are on the same side right now. Ladybird, you donât want Red Hood to die, do you?â
Plying Ladybird was always easier than trying to convince Red Hood. The woman had a heart of gold. Today? No such luck.Â
âHeâs not going to die,â Ladybird scoffed. âIf he dies over this instead of the many, many, many assassination attempts that I saved him from, Iâll feel insulted. But Iâm also not going to help. Iâm not going to kiss an unwilling party, and certainly not one with a mug as ugly as Red Hood.â
âYouâve never even seen my face!â Red Hood argued from safely inside his beauteous red bucket.
âYeah, well youâve never seen mine either, and yet somehow, you have no issue with calling me disfigured every time our paths cross.â
âYouâre wearing a mask. Only people who are horribly scarred wear full face masks.â
âOh, so youâre admitting youâre ugly then?â
âNo, Iâm wearing a helmet, not a mask. Big difference.â
Ladybird barely stopped herself from bashing her head against the cement and steel wall. If the action didnât break her mask, she would have considered going through with it. âGod, this is why Iâm not going to kiss him, Red Robin. Canât you use one of those zeta things and drop in a girl for him to make out with?â
âYou know they donât work like that.â
âI wouldnât know, itâs not like Iâm in the Justice League.â
âNot for a lack of trying! Weâve offered you the position at least ten different times.â
âYeah, on the condition that I get Red Hood to join up too. That certainly doesnât sound like you guys actually want my help.â
âNine minutes on the clock,â an automated voice reminded them.
âI say we blow this popsicle stand,â Red Hood pointed a finger up at the cement ceiling.
âWow, what a stupendously original idea, Red Hood. Itâs almost like the next thing out of your mouth might be something vaguely resembling intelligence. Oh wait, thatâs right. We canât get out of this hell hole because thereâs three feet of cement on every side of us and we have no weapons that can help.â
âI havenât had a crack at it, yet.â
âBe my guest. Iâll sit back and laugh at your failed attempts.â Ladybird reclined on a wall. âWe both know that between the two of us, Iâm the one whoâs better at escape and solutions that don't require firearms. You donât think with either one of your heads, you think with your AK-47.â
âMy babies are all I need to get the job done. Your plans are always so unnecessarily convoluted.â
âTheyâre convoluted so I can cover my tracks instead of leaving evidence, debris, and dead bodies behind.â
âUh, guys? Can you have your spat after Hoodâs life is out of immediate danger?â
âNo,â both of them chorused, immediately glaring at each other for speaking in sync.
âI doubt Scarecrow actually came up with a formula that will make you die if you donât kiss someone of the opposite gender within ten minutes. That seems like the kind of chemical compound thatâs featured in all of those really trashy romance novels, except instead of being unable to control your instincts, you die.â Ladybird considered the empty vial on the floor. âIâm confident that Red Hood can ride this out with minimal damage. Even if he does get horny, itâs not like heâs going to go for me-- drug induced state or not, he canât stand my guts.â
âCan I just say that I donât want to bank his life on that assumption?â
âItâs not like your life is the one at stake. Just try to get someone out here that can break down this welded door for us sooner, rather than later.â Ladybird gives Red Hood a once over. âBesides, if he does try anything, we all know that Iâm more than capable of tying him up.â
#
âHey, why donât you use that Lucky Charm of yours?â
âDo you think I didnât think of that already? That was one of the first things I considered.â
âSo why didnât you use it?â
âOh, I donât know, maybe the fact that after I do, I detransform within five minutes? Not a big fan of exposing my identity, plus itâs not like anybodyâs in any real danger because weâre locked up here. Scarecrowâs tied up, the goons that welded the door shut on us arenât capable of using their brains, and a team is going to bust us out in thirty minutes anyways.â
For the millionth time, Red Hood pounded his shoulder against the steel weld, hoping that something would give. Nothing happened.
A beep sounded.Â
âTen minutes have passed.â
âSee?â Ladybird crowed triumphantly. âI was right. Nothingâs--â
Red Hood fell to the floor, clawing at his chest.
â... happening. I jinxed it, didnât I? I guess Iâll use it, then.â
Ladybird called for a lucky charm. No antidote fell into her hand. Just a sheet of paper, saying Kiss him.
âYouâve got to be kidding me. Tikki, donât do me dirty like this!â
âTikki? Whoâs Tikki? What did the Lucky Charm give you?â
A wet cough sounded from underneath Red Hoodâs helmet. He started to gasp for air.
Ladybird didnât like Hood, but Red Robin was right. She had grown fond of him after saving his ass so many times. She wasnât just going to let him die, especially not when she could help him. With a bone weary sigh, she knelt next to Red Hood.Â
âI guess weâre doing this, arenât we? Red Robin, comms off.â
âOff? But Hood sounds like--â
âOff,â she repeated, firmly. âOr Iâll break them.â
The telltale sign of static ceased in her ears.
Ladybird held Red Hood by his shoulders, maneuvering his mask off.Â
âI hope youâre ugly,â she whispered.
He was not.
#
Even with blood on his lips, Jason Todd was unfortunately attractive.Â
âGonna--â he coughed again, the spray of blood accompanied by a wheeze. âBless me with your face before I die?â
âI canât believe that youâre still snarky while youâre on deathâs door.â Ladybird touched the full face mask that she added during her years as a vigilante in Gotham. She still has the usual Ladybug eye cover, so her identity is safe. But the noh mask provides a sense of safety to her. Sheâs loathe to take it off, but in order for a kiss to work, it needs to be put aside. With a sigh, she places it on the ground and places a hand over Red Hoodâs startlingly blue eyes.
âKinky,â he spat. Ladybird grimaced. Why she ended up on this mission alone with Red Hood was beyond her, but they always ended up in the worst situations together somehow, anyways.
Her lips descended on his.Â
Iron and sweat.
âOkay,â she said, wiping her lips with the hand that wasnât preoccupied with shielding Red Hoodâs eyes. âYou feeling any better?â
He coughed again.
âGreat, so Scarecrow was lying and I didnât have to kiss you. You were just going to die anyways.âÂ
She placed her noh mask back on, then pressed a button on her comm. âYouâre going to want to speed up the whole backup team. Looks like Scarecrow was lying.â
âYouâre kidding me. Scarecrow never lies--â
Red Hood sat up shakily.Â
âIâm fine, Replacement. Throatâs a little sore, but Iâm fine.âÂ
âGood to know his MO hasnât changed,â Ladybird remarked. âIâd suggest that you wipe your face with something. Itâs covered in blood.â
âAnd Ladybird cooties.â Red Hood used his forearm to wipe the blood off. Ladybird had to admit that the man was objectively good looking. The artist in her wanted to take a picture or sketch him. The shock of white hair, symmetrical features, and prominent nose. His eyes had a certain darkness in them, like he had seen the worst of the world, but there was still a clarity to them that said he was fighting against those injustices. âCâmon, youâve seen my face, donât you think itâs time to exchange the favor?â
âBackupâs arriving in three,â interjected Red Robin.
âThereâs nothing in it for me.â Ladybird tugged the hood of her cloak down lower.Â
âIsnât it weird that we kissed and I donât know your face?â
âNo.â
âYou really are into some kinky shit.â
âAlso no on that.â
âThen why not show me your face?â
âStop being such a brat.â
âI know Iâm older than you.â
âBratiness isnât measured in age, but in mental maturity. Which you have none of.â
âPlease?â
âIâm almost tempted to take off my noh mask if only because thatâs the first time Iâve ever heard you say the word please.â
âIf I say it again, will you?â
âIâll consider it.â
âPretty please, Ladybird?â
â... Fine.â Sheâd get a laugh out of this anyways, and the team was minutes away from picking them up.
She took off her noh mask to reveal the red and black domino.
Red Hood cursed.

itâs a fucking metaphor!
Titans 3.08
iâve finally gathered the mental and emotional resources to do this thing, so letâs go! as always, iâm typing this up as i see the episode.
SPOILERS AHEAD
1. on watching this opening scene, i was thinking back to how gar was in s1, or even the early bits of s2. the way he idolised the others, particularly dick, and his readiness to go along with whatever they said, and the way he practically bled the need for acceptance. and here he is now, openly defying dick, fully open to and aware of the flaws of the people he loves and admires, knowing he is accepted no matter what and extending that generosity elsewhere. itâs a remarkable bit of character growth thatâs... sort of blossomed in the background and so rewarding to see and acknowledge.Â
1.25. i guess what i really love about this conflict over how to respond to jason--as clumsily as it is sometimes written--is how their histories and individual traumas inform each characterâs reaction. dick is torn between his guilt over whatâs become of jason and his drive to do what batman had essentially given up on doing: he is motivated to track down red hood at all costs but thereâs a sense that heâs not completely sold on the idea that the only way to stop him is to kill him. (he might go the comics route and try to put him in arkham? god, imagine if the season ended with jason in arkham.) koryâs never had much of a connection with jason in the first place, and jason has done one of the worst things he could do in her book: track and kill a member of her newfound family and is threatening to kill more.Â
and gar... sure. look. the idea of jason and red hood as separate entities appeals to him; that red hood emerged when jason was drugged to the gills by scarecrow and lost his usual inhibitions. garâs struggled with what he becomes when heâs pushed to his limits, too--he did rip open that experimenting scientist with his teeth way back in 1.07, after all, and he was brainwashed by cadmus in s2 into becoming a literal monster. he needs to think, to know, thereâs a dichotomy, a line that can only be crossed under extreme duress or by outside influence.Â
and he says--and we say--that he was accepted back into the titans in spite of what heâd done, but was he really? garâs always struggled with his footing in this group; relegated to the caretaker, the tech guy, the gatekeeper, and sometimes punching bag even though everybodyâs paying lip service to how much of a family they all are. perhaps gar reaching out to jason and offering acceptance is aspirational on his part: perhaps this is the effort he hoped the titans put/or will put into getting gar back, even when it would seem like heâs too far gone.
1.5. anyway my point is that i donât think itâs worth discussing this in terms of right/wrong decisions because all of their reactions make a lot of sense given their backgrounds/personalities. gar is doing a fine job here of tracking down jasonâs friends and trying to find him that way, but we the audience know that jason is ultimately going to end up an anti-hero/eventually-hero character, so with that knowledge in mind we know that garâs reaction is the right one. itâs knowledge that the other characters donât have, so to judge them on it is... uh, unfair.
1.8. also, molly is awesome, yay!
2. dick and barbara flirting over the phone is so cute! i love to see this side of dick: lighter, peppier, willing (even if somewhat reluctantly) to put his mission aside to go out on a date with his girlfriend. and i love how easy this makes his dynamic with kory too: itâs all very domestic and utterly delightful.Â
(also, re: the water leak in barbaraâs office--youâre saying GCPD could afford fancy-schmancy table-wide touch screen computers and evil-lair lighting but needs its frickinâ commissioner to catch leaking water from above her desk with mugs and fishbowls????)
2.2225. this is probably a teeny tiny thing and iâm not sure i want to bring it up at all BUT. the fact that dick feels compelled to lie to barbara about not liking fancy gala food and eating something more substantial before the date? not a terribly great sign, though i wouldnât call it a red flag per se.Â
âthis from a man who forced his students to eat cauliflower crust pizza...â
3. so.... conner and kom are a Thing. huh.
in theory i really like the idea of them bonding over an innate alien-ness and longing for a place they could really belong. both of them are alien twice-over: conner a mix of kryptonian and human, practically generated in a test tube, and kom being somebody that was born different and rejected by her own people, now stuck on a planet dominated by an entirely different species. i even like them exploring this bond physically. i guess itâs the sense of... uneasiness around what we do and donât know about kom that makes this scene land slightly left of centre to me. i think titans, especially through s2, has cultivated in its audience a sense of distrust even until the final episode, just in case somebody vital to the season is suddenly revealed to have had ulterior motives (iâm even low-key suspicious of leslie). i really want to see this kom-conner dynamic play out but the anticipation of watching the other shoe drop is sucking out the enjoyment.
4. for fuckâs sake dick, garâs not your gatekeeper.
TIIIIIIIIMMMMM \O/
4.5. i love this nod to timâs origins in the comics, the way he just comes in and lays out all his evidence and makes it clear to dick that he needs timâs help as robin. the fact that he was there at the flying graysonsâ last performance, he was obsessed with their acrobatic moves, and was observant enough to connect those moves with that of robin and later nightwing... all of this came together to put him where he is right now.
(i also love how he canât contain his giddy excitement when talking about the day dick graysonâs parents died... to dick grayson. even if dick werenât nightwing, that would be a deeply uncomfortable thing! yet tim canât help himself, and i love him for it.)
4.8. itâs a testament to how much dickâs caught off-guard that he canât come up with a better response to timâs allegations other than âuh... he stole my moves! as you know, no two gymnasts in the world are allowed to do the same moves. now, let me escort you out while pretending poorly that iâm not at all shaken by this...â
4.9. iâve talked about this before, but i find the logic around secret identities in this universe utterly fascinating. the titans donât make much effort in keeping their identities secret: everybody seems to know that kory is starfire for instance, or that gar is beast boy. dick grayson is seen hanging out with kory a lot, especially at crime scenes. it wonât take a lot of sleuthing to find out that the titans are currently camped out at wayne manor, and to put two and two together.
my theory was that superheroes and villains have become such an integral part of daily society that itâs almost not worth it to seek out their secret identities, or that itâs just not a big deal anymore. like politicians or diplomats, not everybody bothers to look into who exactly their local politician is, but the people who know just... know. itâs a sort of unspoken social contract.
timâs broken this contract by confronting dick about his identity, and dickâs not ready to deal with it. not entirely.
look at him! *pinches his cheeks*
5. ngl, it was quite satisfying to see jason knock the scarecrow out like that.Â
5.5. i guess... the question of jasonâs culpability is always going to be a thorny one and would make for a great courtroom drama spinoff. there are a number of factors to consider: jasonâs personality, the rough circumstances under which he grew up, his undoubtedly stressful transition to being robin, bruce wayne being... well, bruce wayne, never feeling accepted by the titans and having most of them turn on him, being roundly defeated and almost killed by deathstroke, alfredâs death, a fuckload of ptsd, his violent death, craneâs manipulations, coming back to life, crane plying him with a drug. but there is no easy line to draw between any of these factors to his actions. i think it would be a disservice to jasonâs character to attribute his actions entirely to these things and rather irresponsible to do so. i think jason has to reckon with the fact that when he took craneâs drug, he wasnât reckless and chaotic like the thugs he gave it to; the planning that went into hankâs death was meticulous and the way hank died--dawn essentially tricked into pulling the trigger that blew her lover into bits--is so drawn out and cruel.Â
5.75. itâs occurring to me that crane might have given jason a placebo. maybe jasonâs dependence is psychological, and heâs externalised his fears in such a way that he believes craneâs drugs literally wipe them out, however temporarily.
in any case, the boy needs (more) therapy.
6. âhe walked like robin...â fuck, tim
âgait recognition sweepâ god, this show. i donât know whether to laugh or cry. hey, once weâre done doing this gait recognition thingy, can we get a goddamn plumber in the house??? or move the commissionerâs desk so that sewage water isnât dripping on her head or the million dollar touchscreen desk???????
6.5. oh no dick!!!!!! i am delighted that you got hurt but i feel ashamed about it! that looked like it really hurt!
heâs really not having a good time of it, is he. from being shot by a sniper to slamming at full speed into an suv, heâs got to be really fucking battered by now. and thatâs just the physical side of it.
âcan you believe that just over a week ago i was sitting in san francisco eating cauliflower crust pizza and feeling good about myself for the first time in five years...â
7. koryâs having visions again! now that sheâs figured what they are, do you think the showâs just dropped justin? itâs curious that HPG hasnât been brought up in a while after featuring relatively heavily in the beginning. hmmm.
8. dickâs in hospital but... he looks remarkably whole for someone who took a spill like that. youâd think heâd at least have a bruise to show for it. on the other hand, i love that the first thing he says is âi need to call homeâ. reminds me of season 1 dick and his clumsy attempts to explain away his found family as an âalliance of necessityâ or some bullshit. what a long way heâs come!
*gasp* dickâs hallucinating again!!!!!!!!!!!! iâm doing the dickâs hallucinating dance! can you believe that weâre carrying over these huge honking issues unearthed in season 2 onto season 3? can you believe?!!! all that time and effort i spent talking about dickâs mental health from last season has not gone in vain!!
... ahem. anyway. more on this later.
âhold on barbara, i think kory gave me the number to this therapist that she kept calling Hot Psychiatrist Guy...â
9. just an interlude to say that iâm barely halfway through the episode and iâve already written 2k+ words... ugh. iâm going to try and be more concise.
10. man i fuckin love it when titans goes all out with its weird mindscapes and iâm extra glad that koryâs the focus this time. is that baby kom or maybe a secret sibling that neither of them knew about? was that lady luandâr? and is this place where kory was circling where the secret sibling is? itâs all very intriguing.Â
(if justin turned out to be that sibling... weâve a real luke/leia situation on our hands.)
11. aw, i knew that nice security guard was going to die, but it still hurt to see him go :(
12. this show is so bizarre. like i get the mindscape as a narrative device, but jason using sex workers to try and vocalise his guilt about killing hank was just weird. like. i have to use tamil, sorry: idhulaan yaaru pa room pottu yosikara??? some things just canât be translated into a second language.
i guess one way to interpret jasonâs reckoning with what he did to the titans as a sign of him coming off craneâs drug, but i think itâs more to do with the disillusionment of realising that he was a mere pawn in a more sinister plan, and not, as he thought, a player in control of his destiny, rising to the purpose of liberating gotham of its fears in a way batman never could. along the way, heâs done some truly irreversible damage. itâs a bitter pill to swallow.
13. another hallucination! itâs really intriguing that itâs a young dick(?), younger than weâve ever seen him, wearing an early-era robin costume from way before he even became robin. (this is also interesting in that it gives credence to the idea that ârobinâ is an identity that dick created entirely on his own, and as a possible homage to his family.)
âold road, old house... itâs all gone.â i wonder what it all means.
13.5. itâs entirely likely dickâs hallucinating because of a brain injury from the accident, though just hallucinations without any other focal neurological deficit is unusual. he mightâve been microdosed with fear toxin at some point, though i wonder when... did jason do so after dickâs accident? did he get dosed at the factory from last episode?Â
itâs also possible itâs a continuing manifestation of dickâs issues from last season--which, if you remember, he never told anyone about and therefore never properly addressed. maybe he was hallucinating bruce wayne in a psychotic episode accompanying an acute stress reaction and maybe thatâs whatâs happening now. nobodyâs denying that heâs under an extraordinary amount of stress right now. another way to look at it is that this is how he externalises conflict that he canât bear to suppress anymore; if in s2 halluci!bruce manifested his insecurities and self-loathing, then these hallucinations... something to do with his fears, no doubt.
yet ANOTHER way to look at it might be: rachel is reaching out to him through their, well, psychic bond. after all, they were able to use that bond unconsciously last season to get the titans back together; maybe rachel has learned to gain a degree of control over it in themyscira and is sending across warnings? itâs all very intriguing.
anyway:
âi hear you skipped over the discowing suit in your evolution to nightwing... how could you??â
14. can you imagine, gar did all the work of reaching out to jason via molly and jason wants to meet dick? smh.
14.5. âiâm just a regular guy doing regular thingsâ he says, standing at the opening of a secret old tunnel, like a secret person doing secret things, confronting someone who can now officially be called his stalker. neither of you guys are âregularâ
14.8. âmy dad was a cop and he taught me how to investigateâ - hmmm. i guess theyâre trying to Explain Tim but i donât think thatâs really necessary. so heâs smart and heâs obsessed with batman and robin--that should be enough, imo.Â
15. that scene with scarecrow and his mother was... wow. iâm just laughing here helplessly, because what the hell? for a while i thought it was an extended dream sequence and iâm still not entirely sure that it isnât...
anyway. i still love that titans is happy to throw out its plot in favour of extended character-exploration sessions.
15.5. it seems to me that this scene with crane and his mother (i have no idea if thereâs anything in the comics similar to this) serves to move forward this seasonâs theme of harmful legacies and how parents can damage their children in the name of their mission. in a way itâs been the underlying message of the entire show but weâre really seeing it being reinforced this season. the titans, serving as a foil to scarecrow, are using the damage to rebuild themselves and actually work through their issues together, instead of spiralling further and further into the morass of their issues.
other than that... god, that scene was painful to watch. i canât say i like this version of scarecrow or how this actor plays him at all.
16. i wonder whatâs jasonâs play here. i think heâs smart enough to realise that the titans arenât going to just forgive him and let him be a titan again after what he did, and that dick agreeing to it is just a bid to pin both him and crane down. maybe itâs a ploy to trap them, get back on scarecrowâs good books so that he can have the drug again. who knows.
17. i absolutely felt dick when he said âweâll bring him in and then re-assess the situation.â what the fuck else is he going to say? the priority is to get him.
so kory and dick are both hallucinating while potentially trying to rehabilitate their murderous siblings. CONFIDE IN EACH OTHER ALREADY
18. TIM NOOOO! you beautiful, reckless fool!
18.25. just to quickly address it here because i know itâs been brought up before: i think itâs perfectly justified to not have conner take tim to the hospital via superspeed because a) i donât think weâve seen conner do that with anybody so far and b) itâs probably not a good idea to submit timâs body to that kind of stress without knowing what it would do to him. the paramedics with actual equipment and experience would be there in a few minutes, so on a risk assessment, i would say dick and conner absolutely made the right call.
18.5. i guess we wonât know what jason really intended to when the titans came to the pump to see him, but this is definitely going to set a big wedge in his relationship with crane. then again, crane got what he wanted--using starfireâs powers to blast through to the underground pipes--so jason can argue that this is exactly what he was working towards, too.Â
anyway, mortal peril, hallucinations, murderous family members, creepy visions and robins sprouting left and right. time to get rachel and donna on the scene, i think.

Jason walked out in a few minutes, just in his boxers. She looked at him before letting out a slight laugh at the absurdity of it.
"Don't laugh, you're the one who tore my clothes."
She sighed, "And you're going to have to go home in torn boxers, Bruce is going to kill you."
"God, don't remind me," he said before sitting beside her.
She laughed, "You could just not go home?"
"I wish. But I have a life. You have a life."
"It's unfortunate, isn't it. Can't spend all day with you but you're all I want to do."
"Funny."
"Thank you, I really tried," she thought, "You remember how I seem to have a fascination with vigilantes?"
"Yes, why?"
"I remembered why. So, when I was in high school, graduating year, I had law class. I was bored, so I did law, don't question it," she laughed. "Anyway, in my law class, they split us into groups. Specifically, Pro-Justice-League-Association and Anti-Justice-League-Association."
"Pro and Anti?"
"Yeah, apparently it was relevant? I guess the JLA doesn't use conventional methods to get evidence? Don't care though. Anyway, I was on the side of Pro, obviously."
"Obviously."
"Wait I'm not done! By the end of the class, I had debated every member of the Anti team and converted them. It actually introduced me to the Robin-Forums, which is just smack dab full of conspiracies."
"Robin-Forums?"
"Oh my god? You don't know those? You're all over them. Some people are convinced you're Kid Flash, some are convinced you're Robin, it's crazy."
"That is crazy but seems funny. What about my family?"
"Someone in my class posted "Why Clark Kent is Batman: An Essay" which has like, 20k likes? It's very popular."
"Well, I swear he isn't Batman. He's just very fond of the night."
"That's what I said, but that man is convinced otherwise."
"You would know if any of us were vigilantes. We're not good at hiding secrets."
"I'm sure you have your secrets, I just find it funny people think you have time to be Kid Flash."
"People spend all their time worrying about me, when will it end?"
"Ha! That's fair. Tabloids running your name probably doesn't help the conspiracies."
"I remember one of my ex-friends from high school mentioned me being Kid Flash, I was so confused, I guess it makes sense now. I'm going to have to show everyone that. They'll get a kick out of it."
"I bet they would. I'm waiting for the day I'm on it as someone who's a hero. Hoping they say I'm Wonder Woman or something. I think it would be funny."
"You get Miss Martin because everyone thinks you're too beautiful to be human."
"Aw. That's so corny that I hate it! Well done."
"Thank you. I learned it from Dick."
"Of course you did."
"Where else would I learn it from?"
"If you're genuinely asking, the internet, probably."
"That's fair. That's completely fair. I think Dick learns a lot of his lines from the internet, honestly."
"Oh yeah, there's no way he comes up with everything on his own. No way."
"So, what other dumb stories do you have?"
"Well, I think my sister is either a vigilante or really, really, weird."
"You think your sister is a vigilante?"
"Okay so, she's a businesswoman. No big deal, right? Wrong. She's always out, more often than she has to be, she's always spending nights away from home."
"That doesn't mean anything."
"Okay well Adrianna, Aria, whatever you want to call her, she's being suspicious."
"I'm sure you're looking too far into it."
---------------------------
The Night Jason Was Stabbed.
Aria clutched the scythe in her life hand. She had failed. She had worn her best dresses that she could hide beneath her capes, she had drugged him, she had stabbed him 6 bloody times, and he had still survived!
She was angry. She walked up to the Red Hood on his time off while he was catching a drink, looking stressed. She didn't care if he accepted her offer to go to her room, she just cared about that moment. The one where she could slip in the crushed-up pills and no one would stop her.
And she had done it. She waited until after he chugged the whole drink to strike. He was stumbling around, like an idiot. She hit his head with the back of her blade, knocking him to the ground where she proceeded to stab him 6 times in his right side.
She kissed his forehead before leaving, which required her to removed her mask a bit, saying "Goodnight, sweet Prince," before running into the darkness.
But the blue one, Nightwing. He got to the Red Hood before he could die. And she was pissed. All that hard work, just for him to not even die.
The scythe was still bloodied from the Red Hood. Her lips were still warm from his forehead. But now, he had possibly seen her face! Her plans were foiled every way when of her goblins came up to her.
"Ma'am, your weapon."
She passed it over without second thought. She wanted it rid of the blood of a living man, she wanted it soaked in the blood of a dead man.
Her plague doctor mask fell a bit as she began to tear up. She had failed. She had never failed at knocking "Heroes" down a peg.
Call it crazy, but she knew the fights between her and the Red Hood were far from over. She even felt as they'd grow closer.
As she looked at the walls covered in the photos of the vigilantes of the world, she knew this was only the first battle. The war was hers. They didn't know what was going to hit them.
But there was an issue. Her sister, Y/N had become close with one of the Waynes. She needed the Waynes to get to the "Heroes" which meant possibly hurting her sister.
----------------------------------
"I hope I'm looking too far into it."
She wasn't.
One night when they were both 17, it was just Aria and Y/N in the house when Y/N was awoken by a loud crash from the downstairs window.
She went to investigate, bat in hand, to find her sister, stumbling over the coffee table. Bleeding out and clutching her side from the blood. Stabbed.
Y/N took no hesitation to take care of Aria. Stitching her up like they had as kids when Y/N would sitch up Aria after shut cut herself on skates, or if Y/N ran straight into a car.
Those images still dance in Y/N's mind to this day. Something was up with the way that her sister had a mask, a long bird-Esque plague doctor mask. A cloak. Knives. Guns. A scythe.
The best outcome would be her sister was attacked while LARPing in the park. The worst? She was a villain. Midway? A hero of the night, a vigilante. Anything was better than a villain.
If only she knew the pain Aria had caused her until this point. The fact that Aria was the one who drugged and tried to kill Jason. The pieces of the story were unravelling in front of everyone's eyes, they just needed to connect them properly.
--------------------------------
Aria had a plan. Kidnap her sister and her lover's family. Get ransom. Get them hurting. Locate the "Heroes". The only issue was that Y/N would recognise the cloak, the mask. She knew the get-up.
Aria was not about to redesign her entire outfit for the sake of not alerting her sister. She figured it would be unlikely that Y/N would focus on the cloak when she's being used for ransom money.
Or at least she hoped. She wasn't certain her plan would even work. Breaking into the Wayne Manor, after one of the kids had been stabbed, in a mugging was going to be difficult.
They had employed security, something that was never common at the Wayne Manor before this moment. She was upset. If only her sister had met the Waynes before the stabbing.
Then she thought.
Red Hood is a Wayne?
It made sense, sure. They got stabbed at the same time. But was it reasonable? She didn't know. Why would an 18-20-year-old be a vigilante? He couldn't even legally drink?
She thought it didn't make sense. That the Red Hood was never, could never be the Wayne kid. But if he was, what could that mean?
She was certain he wasn't. But the thoughts swirled in her mind as if beckoning her to come to the conclusion.
She was crazy, she knew that. She was obviously crazy, she became the villain, the opposite of her twin in every way. She was insane. Arkham would like her. But there was something about the Red Hood being a Wayne that kept coming back to her. Haunting her like the night she was stabbed by Green Arrow back in Metropolis.
She was on their radar. They knew her. They would come to get the Waynes.
She knew the Justice League Association knew of her. But the people didn't. This stunt would make the people know of her.
The name Hour will ring through the streets of Gotham. The streets of Metropolis. Smallville. Anywhere she could get her hands on. She would begin her reign of terror.
No one could stop her now.
---------------------------------
Jason had left after Bruce had called him. She assumed he needed to work or one of his siblings did a dumbass move. It was upsetting that they couldn't spend every moment together, but she knew that it was par for the course with Jason.
She was bored. She didn't have a job, her parents paid her bills if she focused on school. But she wasn't something to do, a reason to be having down days. She knew school gave her this, but it wasn't like it was every damn day.
A job would be every damn day. Hopefully. A reason to do so much in her life.
She figured she could work at Wayne Enterprises. But she didn't want to be that girl. The one who's fucking the CEO and is subsequently untouchable. You can't befriend her and talk sit, she'll tattle.
She wanted to be a normal working person. A colleague, not a boss.
Wayne Enterprises was a last resort for her. If she couldn't get hired anywhere else, she'd go apply thee. You don't fuck company property, she thought.
But she also thought fucking Wanye Enterprises "Property" was fun. and no one was really going to stop her, not even Bruce. Even though Bruce tried to lecture her and Jason, there was only so much he'd do. Barbara and Dick both worked at Wayne Enterprises and hadn't been reprimanded for that.
And obviously, they were having sex. They had been together for a while, Jason said.
Which, obviously they were having sex if they were together for that long.
She scrolled a little while for jobs, marking down a few she'd look further into. Not really anything exciting, she was still young, 1st year in college, a freshman. Not many prestigious places would hire someone her age. Especially while they're still in school.
There were only unpaid intern jobs in her field. And she wasn't about to fuck with not getting paid, even if it was her line of schooling. She didn't think it was worth it to put all of your efforts into a job that you weren't getting paid for.
A lot of kids thought her way, including her sister. Both of them grew up thinking that getting paid for work was necessary, her parents had always told them that. Even if her parents had strict religious views, they would still back her up if someone wasn't paying her, even if they fell out.
She thought if Bruce felt the same, that kids should be paid for what they do. He figured he did since he employed all of his kids once they were old enough to work at Wayne Enterprises.
She noticed Lexcorp, who had recently put up a building in Gotham, was hiring. She thought it would be funny if she went to work for her boyfriend's dad's competitor. She was tempted.
Worst comes to worst, she'd be a Lexcorp employee.
She, of course, would have to dress up for these interviews, and she had the clothes to do so, but she didn't, per se, want to wear them.
She also didn't want to go outside when trials were still raging. So, she figured she'd call Christopher's parents about getting him a lawyer and then scroll the pages for shopping. His parents finally had the time to deal with their son, because Christopher didn't want to interrupt his parents with him being an idiot.
She dialled.
"Hello?" his mom asked.
"Hey, Laura. It's Y/N."
"Y/N! Sweetheart, we've been wondering about you ever since, you know."
"Yeah, yeah. We can talk about it later I swear. So, I already told you about what Christopher did, right?"
"You did."
"He needs a lawyer, the man is pressing charges."
"Well, that's stupid. He has no right."
"Apparently he does."
"We'll get Christopher a lawyer. But how are you, darling?"
"I'm okay. Could be a hell of a lot better. I have faith in the court system."
"We're all worried about you, kiddo. You've wrapped yourself up in a lot of a mess recently."
"I know. It's weird. But I swear I'm strong enough to pull through, you've known me for what, 13 years? Give or take? I know how to handle myself."
"That doesn't mean we can't worry."
"I know, new city, new people. I swear behind the scandals I'm in that I actually have friends."
"I assume we'll meet this Jason eventually?"
"Eventually. We need to find the time between court dates, work. Adulting."
"You don't have a job?"
"Jason does. And I'm thinking about getting one to pass the time."
"Working to pass the time is a new thing, fascinating, you kids are."
"Nothing can make sense of all these things I've done, I know."
"Those sound like song lyrics."
"Sometimes songs are the best way to get all your thoughts compiled into one place, you know. I starred as Katherine Howard, Laura. I know how to convey emotion through art."
"I know. That's still one of the performances Metropolis holds on to, you know."
"I wish they didn't. But it is what it is."
"It's a good performance, kiddo."
She laughed, "Anyway. You get onto that lawyer. Christopher needs it right now."
"I will. Be safe. We love you."
"I love you lot."
Click. She thought about Christopher, and the bullshit he went through to save her.
She brushed the thoughts off and pulled out her journal. Scribbling down her sister's bird mask. She couldn't get that off of her mind. She could have sworn her sister made the thing out of actual bone.
It was like she threw a steampunk aesthetic into a plague doctor. She was certain there was more to it that she didn't know.

Donât Tell Me Part 3
Donât Tell Me Part 3
A/N: Okay!!! Here is Part 3 to âDonât Tell Meâ and I gotta sayâŠitâs a little darker than I intended for it to be. Of course, I took Tim Drakeâs storyline from âBatman Beyond: Return of the Joker.â In this particular story, Tim (as a young fairly new Robin, of course) was kidnapped by the Joker and was tortured mentally and physically for three weeks until Batman found him and saved him. After Tim healed, Bruce believed Tim was fine because after everything that happened, Tim seemed happy and normal. ButâŠas the story goesâŠmaybe Tim never healed and never got over what happened, especially since Timâs a very emotional person.
But what will the Batfamily have to do now that Timâs an enemy? Can they save him, or will Tim possibly have the same fate as Joker?
Warnings: Language, bird killing, betrayal, and more later on.
Jason didnât know what to expect when he discovered Y/N was pregnant with his child, let alone what to expect when he would actually become...a father. Father... Jason Todd had a father once, before he became a ruthless crook, and went to prison. Even after, he never returned home. Jasonâs mother and himself had more than a rocky relationship between drug addiction, and soon found himself alone on the streets. Which gave poor street rat Jason an opportunity to steal the Bat-mobileâs tires...and the rest is history. Bruce was a good father to him; despite his and Jasonâs constant ups and downs. After the longest time of feeling replaced and betrayed, Jason even forgave Bruce and learned to love Tim as a younger brother. But in the end, Jason always considered Bruce his father, and even secretly thought that if he were to become a father, he would hope to be a worthy one as Bruce. But Jason knew he would never admit it out loud. Who would believe Jason had thought once or twice about being married and having children? No one, especially those who knew him as an angry, scarred, and troubled young man. But underneath the hard and difficult armor, Jason had always wished to have his own family at one point in his life. Ha. Family. Family... Jason still couldnât believe Y/N is pregnant. The thought of a beautiful, wonderful, and kind woman like her carrying his child makes his heart soar and expand, as if finally, he could have the family heâs secretly hoped for most of his life.
He silently hopes Y/N got pregnant the night of his birthday, but he wouldnât count on it. He admits he knows nothing about how conceiving works besides sex and wouldnât know how to do the math to figure it out.
If anything, he just remembers how Y/N looked underneath him; with her hair spread out on the pillow, the sweat beading on her forehead, her breasts bouncing, and her kissable lips parted when she tried to breathe but Jason kept knocking the air from her lungs.
The fact that Y/N is even pregnant with Jasonâs child makes him want her more.
But Y/Nâs pregnancy is a secret to everyone else, except himself of course. Jason knew about her secret doctorâs appointments. But Jasonâs questions were answered when he spied on Y/N throwing away her failed birth control.
The sickness, the little bump, and how Y/N keeps to herself just proves sheâs different than before. Jason knew he was guilty as Y/N was; even when she didnât keep up with taking her birth control, he didnât wear condoms on most of their sexual activities because he wanted to feel her hot, wet, and tight pussy with just his bare cock. And a condom would surely prevent his fantasies and desires with Y/N.
Is it a boy? He would surely convince Y/N to name the little boy after him, since Jason was positive his son would be the spitting image of him (looks and personality, of course) and it would just make sense for a Jason Peter Todd, Jr. Is it a girl? Oh...Jason knew if he were going to have a daughter, he would love her with all his heart and do whatever it takes to protect her and Y/N for the rest of his life. Maybe this is lifeâs way of forgiving him, for all his sins and mistakes, so Jason can finally have the happy ending he deserves. And maybe...just maybe...Jason can be the man heâs always wanted to be. âRed Hood, you imbecile! Your communicatorâs off!â Robin spats, and lands beside Batman, who are now behind Red Hood. âAre you asking to die, Todd?â âRobin...â Batman warns. His voice already deep and low, and his Bat glare already permanent on his face. âNo personal names called in costumes.â âYeah, you little shithead! What the hell do you guys want?â Red Hood snaps and twists his body around to face them. After patrolling for a couple of hours and with only a mugging and some goons stealing from a jewelry store, Jason found himself bored, and sitting next to his favorite gargoyle. He stands, and towers over Robin. âI already did my job around here, and so far, nothing has happened.â Batman growls. Jason knew his attitude and mouth werenât helping the situation. âOkay fine, whatâs going on now?â Red Hood asks as kindly as he could, which isnât a lot. âThe Joker has been missing for three days.â âSo, what else is new? Jokerâs been missing before, and we find him, kick his ass, and throw him back in fucking Arkham. And when heâs out again, we repeat. Howâs this time any different?â Red Hood questions. âNo clues. No sightings. No lead. This is different. I donât know what he has planned this time,â Batman answers grimly. âUsually, Father and Drake always know the Jokerâs actions and schemes before he does. This escape seems as if it was calculated before Joker could even thoroughly plan it himself. The escape may have been designed outside of Arkham, from a source who knows every detail of the premises and is well informed with the employeeâs schedule to successfully bail him out. The question is, who could have pulled it off?â Robin asks, he hums in questioning. âNames...Robin,â Batman reminds. âSorry,â Robin mumbles. âItâs a damn habit...â âLook, normally I would have already ranted about how your golden rule of ânot killing and justice not vengeanceâ would have ended this cat and mouse game YEARS ago, but this is not new, Batman. I canât fucking count how many times youâve practically allowed Catwoman to walk out of Arkham for a booty call, or how you hand over the bad guys to Arkham for them to escape within one day. Whatâs so special about this one particular Joker escape?â Red Hood explains, and even lifts his gloved hand to count his fingers to name off a few ideas. âIs he going to blow up Gotham? Heâs tried and failed miserably before. Is he going to kidnap Robin to attempt to turn him against you? Heâs tried a million times, and itâs only worked once but that was taken care of. Is he planning to Batnap you and propose to you on top of Wayne Enterprises, because of the whole âchase me and I canât live without youâ running joke, while the rest of us are tied up and gagged with bombs strapped to our chests? Maybe...â âRed Hood!â Batman shouts angrily. âHold on, he might be onto something...â Robin considers it. âWhat? Itâs not like Jokerâs tried that yet. Itâs just a fucking suggestion, old man,â Red Hood defends himself. Nightwing jumps down into a kneeling position and faces his father and brothers. A somber frown is on his face, and he gives off a negative vibe. Somethingâs wrong, and the rest know it. âWhereâs Red Robin?â Batman asks Nightwing. âI donât know. He hasnât been answering his communicator all night. I canât even get Oracle to trace it,â Nightwing answers truthfully, despite his eyes not meeting anyoneâs. He exhales, and finally forces himself to look up to his father. âI...I think somethingâs wrong with him, Batman.â Batman breathes deeply, and walks closer to Nightwing. âWhat do you mean, Nightwing?â âThis...this isnât the first time this has happened. Oracle noticed heâs been MIA for a week. He hasnât been cooperating. He hasnât been patrolling with anyone,â Nightwing lists off his concerns. âOh please, Grayson. Drake slacking off is hardly a concern or issue to even be worried about him. Perhaps heâs being too intimate with Y/N. Heâs most likely back at the Manor, doing the baby-making process Iâve been reading up on lately. I would like a nephew, and I hope Drakeâs sperm cells are sufficient swimmers and impregnate Y/N rather quickly. She has been different lately...perhaps she already is with child,â Damian reveals. âDamian!â Batman growls enraged. Jason felt his heart beat faster than before. Just hearing about Tim trying to be intimate with Y/N makes his blood boil like a volcano. âNo, that-thatâs not what Iâm trying to talk about,â Nightwing sighs, and shakes his head. âI donât want to say this...but I guess Iâm the only one who can tell you the truth.â âNightwing,â Batman begins and pauses instantly. He fears the worst. Batman knows he would be a fool to think all is well when the world keeps getting darker and shittier every day. âJust tell me the truth.â With one last sigh, Nightwingâs teary eyes look up to Batmanâs. âO-Oracle...she has...reason to believe...t-that Tim was the one who released the Joker out.â The air got thicker. The silence between the four men shocked them; and made them question why Tim Drake would help the Joker escape. If anyone knew Bruce Wayne, they would say heâs a loving, protective father of all his children. And if one is being accused of something horrific and questionable, he would defend them until he died. âWhat did you just say, Dick?â Batman asks, appearing to have not heard Nightwing clearly. âW-we think Tim is responsible for allowing the Joker to escape. Y-you see, Oracle was able to go through Arkham Asylumâs surveillance cameras, and Tim had to be the one to get passed all of them successfully,â Nightwing explains hastily. âSo, heâs not even on camera?â âWell, no but-â âThen you have nothing to prove your accusation. If you have no evidence, then you canât accuse Tim of doing something as wrong as letting an insane, murderous, criminal out of Arkham,â Batman says angrily. His breathing is uneven, and his temper is about to burst. âLet me just explain it,â Nightwing tries to reason. âNo, no I donât want to listen to your reasons, Dick. H-how dare you accuse Timothy of doing this? If anything, why not accuse Jason or Damian?â Batman yells, unable to keep his rage under control. The brothers stepped back, because Batmanâs anger is frightening; even to them growing up. âWhy not accuse me? After all, I donât kill, and when I donât kill, theyâll just keep escaping, murdering innocent people, and destroy every ounce of happiness I gain for only a short while. Because maybe I did it. Maybe Alfred did it, too.â âDo not bring Pennyworth into this,â Robin threatens. âJust listen to me for a minute. He wasnât caught on cameras, but couldnât someone who knows Arkham as well as us have done the job and not get caught? It would have to take a genius to go in undetected, do the job, and get out as if nothing happened? The only problem with this theory is, what would Tim get out of it? Why would he want the Joker out?â Nightwing clarifies his case. Batman stays silent. He turns to face Red Hood and Robin. âHe...he wouldnât, though. He is different. Heâs always so aware and sure of everything. Why would he do this?â Batman whispers, mostly to himself. âHe never had a bad past; not like the rest of us. I...I always thought he was going to stay good. I thought I would never have to worry about him.â Jason couldnât believe this. He didnât want to believe Dick, but something in his gut was telling him to hear him out. Could someone as good as Tim really turn bad? Would Tim happen to know his and Y/Nâs secret? Oracle beeps into Nightwingâs communicator. âGo ahead Oracle.â âNightwing...I-I have some bad news for you. Well, for all of you really. Get online now,â Oracle commands. Red Hood pushes a button inside his helmet where he is watching the screen load the video. Batman and Nightwing look down to their wrists where a screen lights up, that links them online with Oracle and Alfred. A shaky video loads, and it appears someone unknown is recording a brown shoe box, where a dark and reddish bird, a robin to be exact, is lying down dead with its eyes open outside of a nest with two small bird eggs inside. âWell! Isnât this precious! This robin birdie was a mother,â the voice belongs to Joker. His high screeching laugh made the men silently gasp. The camera moves away from the mother bird and zooms in on the eggs. âAww...new life. They say in death, live continues on...but not for these unborn children.â The camera then turns around and Jokerâs face takes up the entire screen. His dark eyes send shivers down the Batman and Batboyâs bodies. His painted red lips curved up into a deadly smile. âI finally have your attention now, Bats? Youâre probably asking yourself, âNow why would the Joker attack and brutally kill a bird, who just laid her eggs, and didnât have the beautiful opportunity to see her children hatch from their little eggs, and take that first breath in this dark, evil, and deadly world I, Joker reign in?â You know, while I usually take my sick pleasure in torturing your family Bats, or some innocent people I donât even know or care about. But I must say Bats...even your family can surprise me!â Joker laughs hysterically, before he dramatically frowns. With a hand holding his cheek, his mouth opens wide. âAnd letâs just say, this wouldnât all be possible without your third Robin...â Batman growled and shut his eyes tightly. This was too much for him. Red Hood feels his insides burning with rage. No, no thereâs no way Joker could know...he thought to himself. Tim wouldnât do this... âI am beyond surprised Bats! Even I couldnât have done this all by myself! After all, who would have thought that the second former dead Robin would have knocked up a woman, who is supposedly dating your third Robin? Did you know that, Bats? The so-called damned Prince of Gotham knocked up the Batfamily slut, Y/N Y/LN. Now thatâs a mouthful! And now I bet youâre wondering where your faithful and more-than alive Robin is,â Joker says, and turns the camera and it zooms in on Tim Drake, dresses from head to toe in his former Robin costume but painted in exact Joker makeup. âWho would I thought I could manipulate and influence his mind twice? He must not be as sane as you believed, Bats!â Batmanâs breathing heavily in panic. When Tim Drake was younger, Joker managed to kidnap him and manipulate him into being Jokerâs son. But luckily Batman was able to treat him and stop Jokerâs influence from taking over his mind. But maybe Joker is right. Maybe Tim isnât as sane and good as he once believed. Red Hood watches in complete horror how Tim glances up at the camera and smiles, very similar and terrifying as Jokerâs. âWhoever this Robin was...his spirit is destroyed, as I have destroyed the secondâs, and even yours, Bats!â Joker cackles. Joker turns the camera once more as he holds up the robinâs eggs to the lens. âOh, and as for these baby birds? I canât wait to eat them, just like I canât wait to eat yours, Red Hoodie!â Joker tosses back the robinâs eggs into his mouth and his teeth breaks apart the poor, unborn birdsâ eggshells. The liquid from the eggs, blood, and flesh stick to his teeth, creating a grayish ooze with blood, and his maniac eyes shine as his laugh echoes throughout the tape. âNow, that was very delicious! Those robin eggs were tasty, and I know Red Hoodieâs and Y/Nâs will be very tasty too! Isnât that right, Y/N?â Joker asks, and turns the camera to face Y/N, lying on a dirty, torn up hospital bed, but she appeared to be groggy and unresponsive to her name. âWell, sheâs just tired because being pregnant with Red Hoodâs baby MUST be exhausting! That kidâll come out like a cannonball!â
Jason clenched his teeth and fists. He was pissed off; angry and frustration werenât enough. A sudden strong energy takes over his body. He feels the urge to protect his love, and his child. No matter what. Even if he must kill Joker.
Jason no longer cares about the golden rule. The love of his life and unborn child are in danger, and if he doesnât find them, heâd lose them both.
Heâd even lose TimâŠhis brother.
âIâll even eat her egg when sheâs just three months along! You know me Bats!â Jokerâs laugh ends when the tape ends.
The screens are off when Red Hood notices Batman, Nightwing, and Robin are glaring at him. âWeâll talk more about that at home. Until then, we need to find the Joker, and save Tim and Y/N,â Batman announces, and motions the boys to follow him. âHow dangerous could Drake even be? He has the anger and the strength of a toddler,â Robin claims sarcastically. Batman stops, and faces his sons. There is the worry, the anger, the tears in his eyes he canât fight back anymore. âNone of you remember how Tim was back then. You had your own life Dick, the solo career as Nightwing. Jason, you were back into Gotham with your vengeance. And Damian, I didnât even know you existed. So, none of you were there when Tim was just starting off as my Robin. He was a happy kid, a kid who loved to learn and be the best. But Joker got to him before me. He tortured him for three weeks. Brain washed him. Torment him mentally and physically. Used him as a solider to get back at me. But because of Timâs natural innocence and happiness, he was made a perfect target. TimâŠwas and still is an emotional guy. If something were to snap in his head, it would be the end for him. If he wanted to, Tim could have killed hundreds, maybe even thousands, just to hurt me. Tim was and still is the perfect solider, and Iâm going to be the one who pays, again,â Batman confesses. âWhy would you pay? Iâm the one who should be paying for what Iâve done,â Red Hood asks quietly. Batman releases a choked sob. âBecause I knew about Timâs pain...and I never helped him. I didnât think heâd ever need help.â
âWhat do you mean?â Nightwing asks. âDid you know this was bound to happen?â
âYes. I knew it was eventually going to happen. And now that itâs happenedâŠI have to stop him myself.â
Jason knew what Bruce meant, and while Bruce may have a plan, Jason knew he wasnât going to stand beside him when it comes down to the Joker.
Jason wants nothing more than to put a bullet through the Jokerâs skull.
âIf he hurts Y/N, the baby, and Tim,â Jason chokes out before he manages to pull himself together. Hot tears are streaming down his cheeks, and he thanks God he has his hood on. âIâm going to kill the Joker. I donât give a fuck about your golden rule anymore. If you get in my way, Iâll kill you too. If you kill me right after, Iâd still not give a shit. Because whatâs it going to take for you to realize heâs a fucking monster whoâll keep doing this over and over again until youâre the last one standing? So, how many more people have to die or be crippled for you to see he needs to die? Me?! Barbara?! Tim?! Y/N?! My fucking unborn child?! Or does Alfred, Dick, or Damian have to be the last ones for you to see it?â Jason screams.
Batman exhales. A pained look is on his face, and he looks defeated already.
âMaybe this timeâŠI wonât stop you from doing thatâŠif it needs to be done.â

The Wayne-Todd Literary and Tea Society
In which Damian and Jason bond over books and complicated feelings.
Batman (Comics) one-shot. Characters: Damian Wayne & Jason Todd.
Word count:Â 2695. For General Audiences. No pairings.Â
Read on Ao3: The Wayne-Todd Literary and Tea Society by Beatriz Caelum
When Damian sees Jason Todd, he is always tempted to ask a few questions.
You see, differently from most, what he wishes to say usually isnât about the killing that happens when Jason puts on the infamous red helmet. That he is capable of understanding. Damian didnât use to kill for anything related to ethics  â a natural aspect of his birthright more than anything else â, as grey as morality can get in both sides of his family, but he has blood on his hands nonetheless.
There isnât much to say about dying, either. Theyâve both been there, at different times, in almost different worlds, clinging to what Bruce Wayne once meant, but Death is timeless and the same to everyone it touches. (It is life that is different. Damian woke up to love and Jason to absence.)Â
Sure, there were some scattered talks about it over a rooftop or two, mostly questions, âWhat do you remember of it?â and  âDo you feel wrong when you breathe?â, that were met with, âIâm not sure,â and âBeing alive to me has always felt somewhat unsettling,â but it wasnât long before they realized that it was the last thing they wished to talk about, even with someone who could understand.
Good thing they can work just fine with silence.
Even though almost a full year has gone by after Damian was bought back to the unfortunate land of the living, he still catches the Red Hood looking out for him more than what is necessary whenever they happen to meet under Gothamâs night sky. Itâs something he does even when they are in different sides of a fight, ânot opposite sides,â Hood would say, âyou know what I want for this hell of a city is the same that you want, too.â
(Damian supposes it is the same in more ways than it is not, but Father has a more abrasive opinion on the matter.)
Regardless of how many times Damian has snarled for him to stay out of his way â like a little brother would be upset rather than an acquaintance or an ally â, that he does not need the extra protection, especially not from him, the Red Hood is insistent. Merciless even about this.
Fatherâs face twitched when he mentioned the gesture. Drake teased, âyou complain when we donât like you, you complain when we try to help.â Â Richard gave him a sad smile that Damian couldnât shake off for days; Nightwing is also prone to reckless protection around Robin, closer to endangering himself than he would be otherwise.
It makes it harder to work. It makes it more painful to love and be loved by Richard. It makes him more sensitive to what persisted of Fatherâs grief. But, right now, Damian can only think of how it makes him more curious about Jason Todd  â he could write a list. How can you be so ruthless, yet so caring? How much of your idiocy is staged? How was Father before he lost you? Do you truly not realize the hole you left inside his heart?
But, most of the time, he wishes to ask him about Mother.
Damian knows they spent some time together. What of her that he knows that her own son doesnât? He wonders, sometimes, what would have been of their weird brotherhood â if you could call it that â if Mother was to tell him about the ex-Robinâs leap into the Lazarus Pit. They couldâve met. He was very young then, but his tender age had never been an issue to the League. Perhaps, after probably trying to murder Jason for planning to hurt the Batman of all people, he would grow to admire that⊠unique determination.  Like he does now, although reluctantly.
However, what actually pulls the trigger and has Damian swallowing his pride has nothing to do with blood â in any sense of the word.
âWhat do I own the visit?â
The way Damian stiffs, full on Robin gear and with only one foot into the apartmentâs window, could only be caught by someone trained under his Father. The Red Hood snorts, a sound distorted by the helmetâs voice modulator.
âI assume you let me in,â he chooses to say. âOtherwise your security methods could be compared to the skillset of a babbling infant. And that is me being polite.â
âIt sure is,â Hood sits down, couch worn out and small like most of his safehouses, reaching for a mug resting on a table. The room smells like cheap coffee â the kind that offends Drake to a personal level â, but Damian suspects that this is tea. âAlfred called. Like, a few minutes ago. Said that if I let my window open I might catch a bird.â
Damian clicks his tongue, âI didnât tell Pennyworth to inform you of my arrival.â
âAre you embarrassed?â
He presses the bag he is holding a little too forcefully to his chest. âNo.â
The Red Hood hums and takes off the helmet. Then, Jason Todd blows on his drink. Â âYou must have noticed by now, but Alfie kinda does what he wants.â
(Damian has very much noticed.)
âWere you about to go out to do any of your nonsense?â He asks. Then, more shyly: Â âI could come back another time.â
For a moment, Todd looks like heâs about to ask what Damian wants from him, but instead, he raises an eyebrow. âYou donât get to boss me. Werenât you supposed to be getting ready to patrol now, baby bat?â
Damian frowns at the nickname. âWeâre going in later tonight for a specific mission, but, for once, I am not here to discuss any crime-related activity. It is more⊠personal.â
âOh, no.â He groans louder than Damian wants to hear. âIs this any kind of family meeting? I know I have been on kinda-friendly terms with most of you for a while now, but Iâm not in the mood for anything personal. â
âIt is not a family meeting.â
âWhatever it is, go to Dick.â
He clears his throat. âI think it will be of your interest.â
âSurprise me, then.â Todd sighs, stretching his arms. The mug is now empty and thereâs probably more where it came from, but he doesnât offer any beverage to Damian. Rude. âDo your worst, but you know Iâm badder.â
He refuses the urge to roll his eyes at the insulting use of the English language â Todd is above this! â and drops his bagâs content onto the living room table with little to no ceremony, almost pushing the mug off. Jason curses at him.
Then, nine bangs. One from each Sherlock Holmes book colliding with the wood.
Todd's expression shifts in a way that Damian knows he wishes he still had the helmet on.
âThese are mine,â he draws out, slow.
âIndeed.â
âYou â,â Todd narrows his eyes, the greenish blue glowing accusingly. âYou stole my books?â
Damian bristles, âI am above stealing.â
âI donât remember giving them to you,â he points out. âOr letting you borrow them.â
âThey were in the Manorâs library,â he says. âWith some other books that also belonged â belong to you, I believe. They had a special place just for them.â
âWhââ
âPennyworth.â
Toddâs shoulders are still tense, but the lines around his eyes soften at Alfredâs name. Damian can see that thereâs some sort of internal struggle by the way Jasonâs body carries itself in what he recognizes as the most unforgiving self-discipline; as if his fingers itch to run through the booksâ covers, open them, press gently to the pagesâ margins to see â to feel â if the notes he took so fervently all those years ago are still intact, but he doesnât want to have this moment in front of Damian.
âYou came here to tell me you found out Alfie is a good person,â Todd deadpans, but Damian catches the constipated emotion nonetheless. âAmazing job, Detective.â
âI came here,â he hesitates, âbecause I saw your notes.â
Todd wrote on all the nine volumes, a  rushed, clumsy but determined calligraphy squeezed between the edges and Arthur Conan Doyleâs words, mostly untouched with the exception of a few phrases carefully circled by Alfred where Todd had made a grammar or spelling mistake. By the end of each and every book, thereâs Fatherâs handwriting complementing Toddâs observations and theories about the plot, the mysteries and the characters throughout the pages.
It made Damian heartâs ache when he saw it all. Younger Toddâs excited rambling about what he was reading was very, very bright. More often than not, he grasped even the more obscure clues and foreshadowings Doyle left within the narrative â a detective in making. A natural.
Damian had imagined Jason Todd as this dense, unruly kid that would only pick up a book if someone made him. Someone who worshipped senseless violence. Itâs what almost everyone says. Itâs what Todd himself tells people.
I was Robin. The bad one.
âAnd youâre here to tell me how stupid they were? How much better you were at my age?â Todd scowls, getting up a little too fast, already walking towards him. âBecause I donât want to hear any of it. Get out.â
âThank you,â Damian blurts out before the most Al Ghul part of him shuts his mouth and before Jason pushes him out of the window. âIt was a privilege to read them.â
Surprise bursts into Toddâs face and he almost loses his balance when his steps come to an abrupt stop. âWhat?â
âYou were â I saw your other books,â he says. âYou have excellent taste in Literature and your notes were filled with very pertinent insights.â Â
âYouâre complimenting me.â
âYes,â Damian rolls his eyes. âIt would be foolish of me not to admit it.â
Todd opens his mouth, then closes it. He repeats the action a few more times.
âYouâre welcome, I guess?â He says, exasperation coloring his tone. âI wish I had a camera.â
âOnly the Sherlock Holmes collection had notes on them,â Damian decides to push his look. âI checked it twice.â
Toddâs lips twitch, forming a thin line. A sort of bitterness clings to him and Damian is suddenly too aware of the fact that the boy who wrote what he read is lost to more than time itself.
âB gave me them so the deductive skills part of training wouldnât be so boring,â he sits down again, not looking at anything specific. âHe â we decided to make it a sort of game. The notes were for him. So he could see my progress.â
âWe donât do this sort of activity,â Damian finds himself saying. He swallows, hand to his throat. The words hurt to pass through.
"I'd offer you tea, but I just ran out of it."
"Next time."
Toddâs smile is tired, âYou can just ask Bruce to do stuff like this with you, gremlin.â
âI suppose I could,â he mumbles. Then, louder: âThere are many clean books.â
âDonât touch my stuff,â Â he snaps, but thereâs no venom to it. âYou hadnât read Sherlock Holmes before?â
Damianâs back straightens. He puffs his cheeks involuntarily, âOf course I had. I wanted to re-read it. Who do you take me for? Iâve read the most celebrated literary works to date from authors all across the world!â
âTo Kill a Mockingbird?â He challenges. âOne Hundred Years of Solitude? Beloved? Fahrenheit 451? The Color Purple? The Left Hand of Darkness?â
âPlease,â Damian scoffs. âI couldâve written an award-winning analysis on all of these when I was four.â
âWhatâs the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything?â
â42.â
âImpressive.â
He shoots back at Todd a list of his own and isnât all that surprised that Jason only stops him once, âDom Casmurro? Never heard of it.â
âItâs from Machado de Assis,â Damian for once in his life tries not to sound arrogant when explaining something. âBrilliant writer from Brazil.â
âTheyâve got Clarice Lispector too,â Toddâs eyes widen in recognition. âIâll look it up.â
âNo need,â Damian waves his hand in a dismissive gesture. âIâll have a copy delivered to you in no time. We can discuss it later if Capitu did or did not cheat on Bentinho and why it is unclear to this day.â
âI donât know who these people are, but I bet she didnât and, if she did, he deserved it.â
Damian almost smiles, âGood guess.â
âUh,â he blinks. âAre you okay, Damian?â
âDo I not seem in a good condition to you?â
âYou want to spend time with me,â Todd says, pointing to himself. âWith me. â
Damian tries to mask the disappointment that creeps up on him with his usual scowl. âIf you find it unpleasant and does not wish toââ
âIâm just surprised,â he interrupts. âGod. Did I wake up looking like Dick Grayson and no one told me?â
âYouâre not entirely impossible to be around, Iâll give you that, but you arenât Richard either.â He smirks wolfishly. âBut you do have a chance to prove to me that you can discuss art better than anyone else in our family.â
The last two words envelop the room in a heavy sort of silence. No one dares to move for far too long, and, despite the stillness of it all, despite how little effort one has to make in order to unveil the exact pace of their heartbeats and what they hide, no noise from the outside is brave enough to interrupt whatever flows between Damian and Jason in this instant.
Damian doesnât know if Pennyworth keeping the books made him sentimental, or if the Bat Signal is shining behind him for Father, or if the way he said our family was just like Richard says it, or if something about his careful way of approaching reminds Todd of how he and Drake started sorting out their own issues, or if the act of sharing words and finding meaning in it makes Toddâs mind wander off to Cain. Damian has no idea.
But, somehow, theyâre all here. With them.
And Todd could run away. He could â and he doesnât.
His hand finally finds its way to one of the books, with such care and devotion that, if it wasnât for the bat plastered on Toddâs chest and the gun attached to his waist, no one would believe heâs the Red Hood.
âThese stories,â Toddâs voice is not above a whisper, âmade me feel like I had a home when you guys couldnât.â
Damianâs eyes burn behind Robinâs mask. âYou can have more than stories now. If you wish.â
The look in Toddâs eyes carries the kind of intensity that makes people afraid to live another day. Damian waits, without as much as breathing, for something to shatter; for having to turn his back and walk out with Toddâs rejection at his trail.
Instead, âDamian Wayne wants me to join his book club.â
Stunned, he almost falters. âIf you want to put it that way.â
Todd turns away to put on his helmet before Damian can get a better look at his expression, but, if thereâs anything feigned about Toddâs agreement, he isn't able to see. He seems to be getting ready for the night, back turned to Damian and a serenity to his movements that wasnât there before.
âThe things I do for art,â the voice modulator makes his dramatic sigh sound like static.
âI only expect the best,â Damian warns. âI choose the books.â
âAlways?â Todd protests. âBut then weâll never know in which Hogwarts house youâre in, or who is your godly parent and if youâre in Camp Half-Blood or Camp Jupiter, if youâre Team Edward or Team Jacob, and I wonât get to see your face when Prim goes boom, or ââ
Damian is almost regretting this already. Â âWhat even is this nonsense?â
âOh, Iâll let you know.â Todd has one foot out of the window. âThis is going to be priceless.â
âI wonât read any garbaââ
âSee ya in the Slytherin common room!â
âWhere?â
Damian still has many questions to ask, but he is already gone, of course, and Robin is completely alone in the apartment.
But nowhere near as lonely as the other times Jason walked out on a conversation.

The Looking Glass | 3 | Sweet Pea
Sweetpea x OC
I know I should crumble for better reasons, but have you seen that boy? He brings the sun to its knees every night.
chapter one | chapter two |
Writers note: Since Riverdale isnât bound by the rules of time we use here on Earth, neither is this fic. The show left very little time between FP coming home and Southside closing, so Iâm using my judgment to stretch that out just a little bit. This might be a bit of a filler chapter ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻÂ BUT, I do hope you enjoy it all the same especially because you get to know more about Carl and Sweet Pea (youâll see what I mean)Â
Warnings: Language, Underage drinking
It took a week for Carlson to get comfortable and into a habit in Riverdale; Southside High was as good as it was going to get, she had a group of friends, and Toni managed to get her a job at the Whyte Wyrm during the weekdays. She was following in her motherâs footsteps one day at a time even if she didnât realize it at the time.
Tuesdays were always slow at the Wyrm and that made her beyond happy. Most of the patrons were the younger members who came after school while senior ones were off doing Serpent tasks. Hog Eye thankfully let her have control of the radio, Toni worked with her, and she was able to forget about everything else for a few hours. Who wouldâve thought that the Wyrm would be her escape from the world? Definitely not her.
The two girls had been at the bar since they left Southside High with Toni claiming, âif youâre going to work at the Wyrm I have to teach you how to make real drinks, C.â She was showing Carlson how to properly pour a beer from their tap when the doors to the bar swung open, causing both of them to turn. Sweet Pea and Fangs were shoving each other as they walked into the Wyrm, talking over each other about how they took care of some Ghoulie and needed to celebrate. Carlson took one look at Toni and both of them started laughing as the boys split and made their ways around the bar.
âHey Carl, can I get a beer?â Fangs slide into of the bar stools with a grin on his face.
âDonât you have homework, Fangs?â âDonât you have homework, Carl?â He leaned towards her over the bar, tucking his arms under his chest.
She leaned back at him, stopping inches from his face and pointing a thumb behind her. âWhy do you think I have my notes open on the back bar?â He opened his mouth to say something but she cut him off with a laugh before he could start. âShould I get one ready for the leaning tower of Sweet Pea too?â
Carlson glanced over Fangsâ shoulder to find their other friend in the crowd. As usual, he was at the pool table hustling the younger Serpents. She continued to watch as he commanded the table, forcing all of the attention to be on him. After a few seconds, he looked up, making eye contact with her as she waved him over.
âLetâs play a game, Carl. Truth or dare.â
âAre we in middle school, Fangs?â She rolled her eyes at him. âPlus, it seems like you forgot that weâre working.â
âHey, Hog Eye!â He waved at the man talking to someone at the end of the bar. âCan we have a little fun with the new bartender?â
âAs long as you tip her.â
She sighed as Fangs shot a fist in the air. It wasnât that she hated truth or dare, but she didnât enjoy the concept of picking between a rock and a hard place. The stress from it made her grab a handful of sunflower seeds from the bowl, chew them and swallow all within seconds.
âDid⊠you just take sunflower seeds, chew and swallow? Shell and all?â Toniâs eyes widened as she watched her chew.
She knitted her eyebrows together, confusion written on her face. âYeah? Why?â
âThatâs disgusting, Carl.â Sweet Pea took the seat next to Fangs, directly in front of where she was standing.
âIâm going to ignore that comment since Fangs is the object of my annoyance right now.â
Carlson turned towards Toni, grabbing the glasses from her hands. Three pairs of eyes watched as she poured the beers one by one. The first few rounds of the game were simple; do a certain amount of shots in under ten seconds, which person she would marry, it was Toni, and flirting with an older Serpent in order to embarrass their friend.
Carlson leaned on the back bar for support, weighing out her options. âIâll go with truth this round.â
âDid you actually go through initiation?â Sweet Pea had his signature smirk on his face
âThe short answer to that is yes.â
âAnd the long answer?â
âThe long answer is that because I was the quote-unquote Serpent Princess, one of the senior members thought people would go easy on me. So, he brought a knife to my initiation and sliced me up pretty bad.â She traced a line over her bodysuit, just below her ribcage that landed close to her spine. âIt left a pretty gnarly scar but Iâm here now.â
âNo serpent dance?â
âOh, God no. My dad said that my mom made sure it was outlawed when they moved.â
âSo, why join?â
âOh no, Sweets,â she wagged a finger at him. âItâs my turn to ask you truth or dare.â
âFine. Truth.â
âWhy does everyone call you Sweet Pea?â
âBecause Iâm sweet and as small as a pea.â
âAlright, letâs raise the stakes with a double dare, Carl⊠make Sweet Pea dance to whatever song comes on next.â
Both Carlson and Sweet Pea looked at Fangs and at the same time went, âNo.â
âOh, come on! It would be hilarious to see you two dance together.â
âIâm not dancing with daddy long legs over there.â
âExcuse you. My legs are the perfect length unlike yours, cloud head.â Carlson placed a hand on her hip
âCloud head? Is that the best you can do, noodle?â
âAnd the Jolly Green Giant counters with noodle, everybody!â
âYou two are the worst,â Fangs interrupted their banter as he pointed at the both of them. âIâm taking my beer and walking away.â
Fangs went over to a booth with other Serpents, muttering about how someone always has to ruin the fun, as Toni talked to Hog Eye, leaving the two others by themselves. The silence was comfortable between them. But that didnât stop Carlsonâs curiosity from getting the better of her.
âHey, leaning tower. Wanna play 20 questions? Iâll give you a free beer.â She wiggled his empty glass in front of face as if it would sweeten the deal.
â20 questions? Really?â
âWe can do party rules, 10 questions with 20 answers. And you get that free beer.â
He muled the proposition over for a few seconds, finally nodding as she got to work.
âSo, why join the Serpents?â
âBecause Iâm thin and pretty obviously,â she paused to flip her hair over her shoulder for effect. âBut, seriously I could sneak into places and steal shit easily. I was like the Robin Hood of San Francisco. Your turn.â
âFor a family.â
She nodded, not wanting to push him to say more if he didnât want to. It was obvious that most members of the Serpents were looking for something, it didnât matter whether it was a family or an escape from reality. But, that didnât stop a small blush from creeping onto her face because she thought her answer sounded silly compared to his.
âWeapon of choice.â
âItâs a tie between my brass knuckles and switchblade. Yours?â
âIâd have to say pocket knife.â
âEven after your initiation?â
âItâs ironic, I know. Well, after tha-â
âAlright, Sweet Pea,â Hog Eye interrupted their conversation, glancing between the two. âStop flirting with my bartender. Some people have work to do.â
As quick as he showed up, Hog Eye was gone before either of them could respond to his accusation. Sweet Pea took one sip from his glass and pushed his seat out, not noticing that the other person was still speechless.
âWait, Sweet Pea. Give me your phone.â She reached an open palm at him as he gave her a confused look. âI want to see if youâre as good at iPhone pool as you are at real pool because Iâm a champ at it. Ask Fangs.â
âIs that why Fangs keeps cursing at his phone?.â A laugh fell past his lips as he pulled his phone out of pocket and handed it to her, watching as her digits flew across the screen. âWeâll see if you can put your money where your mouth is.â
The rest of her shift went by without much excitement. Toni told her about the Black Hood, Jughead made an appearance, and Hog Eye even sent her home early because it was slow.
Carlson woke up early the next morning in an attempt to see her dad before heading off to school. Between working at the Wyrm and his job at a local body shop, they had barely seen each other in the past week. She threw out whatever clothes smelled clean enough and slid her bag over her shoulder.
She jogged into the kitchen which was bare except for a coffee pot and toaster oven, the only appliances that made the trip across the country. Her dad looked up from his mug as she poured herself a cup.
âThe golden child has graced me with her presence this morning.â
âI think you mean the favorite child. Brady and Nic have nothing on me.â
âHowâs your first week been so far? Things good at the Wyrm?â
âTheyâre good so far. Donât jinx me!â
âHe Who Must Not Be Named has been asking around about you, Ceecee.â
âI thought we agreed not to mention him, Dad.â She ran a hand through her hair and sighed. âWhat was he asking?â
âJust where you were, how you were doing. That stuff.â Her eyes shot up from the mug in her hand to her father who had a reassuring smile on his face. âDonât worry, Ceecee. No one told him anything.â
Her phone buzzed on the counter, switching both of their attentions to the phone.
âNew boyfriend? Or girlfriend this time? Toni is your type, Cee.â
âItâs way too early to have this conversation.

A Proposal
A/N: This takes place two months after They Are My Blessings in my WW2 AU that began with An Endless NightÂ
Faith receives an unexpected proposalÂ
 2nd September 1945
âFaith! Faith, wait a moment, will ye?â
Johnny MacPhersonâs voice rises and catches on the wind as she slows her bicycle, letting the wind cut and slap against her cheeks, her feet dragging against the tarmac.
It has been a long week; a long and tiring week and all she wants to do is go home, change out of her nurseâs uniform, dispense with the groceries that are banging in a string bag against her leg and settle down in the library with a book, a mug of tea and the wireless.
Johnnyâs face is slapped red with exertion as he skids to a stop beside her, coat and hat flying, a shy smile curling at the corners of his lips as he takes her in. His grey eyes are smudged with bruises, his face pale in the fading light.
Since the end of the war heâd taken work as a bank clerk in Inverness, taking the rickety milk train from Broch Mordhaâs station every morning at dawn and coming home when the sharp, cool lights of sunset were just falling over the hills.
âJohnny,â she tries to keep her voice bright but knows instantly from his face that it isnât working.
âWhy, are ye that shocked tae see me Faith?â
His face falls as he takes in her expression, the smile crinkling down as long fingers crumple at his hat.
In that moment he looks for all the world like a sad puppy and Faithâs heart aches for him.
She might have loved him once, she thinks.
Before the war, had she been older then.
Had she not been pulled into a whirlwind of work at the hospital, where there was no time to think of such trivial things as love and marriage.
âNo,â she says, tucking a stray lock of hair back behind her ear.
âNo, of course not, Johnny. I just didnât expect to see you, thatâs all.â A light laugh that doesnât sound like her at all.
âI managed to get off early,â he says a little sheepishly, the tips of his ears blushing pink. She nods kindly; he is young and sweet, and sheâs known him for most of her life. They had grown up together, learnt to crawl in the Lallybroch kitchen, played at being Robin Hood and Maid Marian in the grounds, tugged each otherâs hair and blushed when their parents saw.
 But love him?
She loves him like a brother, the big brother that she never had, no more.
 Could she though?
Could she love him in that deeper, heart-giving way, giving her soul to him as she has seen burst forth from her parents?
His fatherâs croft was as much her home as the main house ever could be, with itsâ low ceiling and roaring peat fire, Tam and Eileen MacPherson as much her parents during as the war as her own, but nowâŠ
âSo I thought we could go to the pictures, ken? Lady on a Trainâs showing and the tickets are 2 and 6, soâŠâ His words come out in a rush, almost as if he doesnât say them now, they never will be said.
ââJohnny, I⊠â She canât stop herself glancing at the slowly darkening sky and thinking about the four miles that she still has to travel before she reaches home.
âI can see ye home, if thatâs what youâre worried aboot,â he says quickly.
âPlease, Faith. Iâve barely seen ye these past months,â he sounds so earnest that she knows that it will break his heart entirely if she refuses him.
âAlright then,â she says, feeling her heart lift at the sight of his face splitting into a grin at her words.
The cinema is a dilapidated piece of crumbling neo-Gothic architecture situated in a side street just off the main square with its war memorial that she passes every day on the way to work, a lump catching in her throat.Â
Itsâ hurled, white plaster is crumbling around the edges, the electricity cracked and erratic, the hems of the red velvet curtains frayed at the edges. She remembers coming here during the war with Brianna and Willie in a desperate moment to escape the cavernous, empty hole that Lallybroch had been during the worst days of 1940, crowding in three seats together, holding each otherâs hands, skin tingling, whispering, pulling close when the wine of the air-raid siren ripped through the auditorium,
It is hot and cramped with the push of too many bodies, a melee of bank clerks, recently demobbed soldiers tall and self-conscious in their civilian clothes, their sweethearts soft and blushing in the dim, flickering light as they were ushered to their seats. There are a few grey uniforms amid the sea of greens and reds and blues and browns and she thinks she sees one of her stricter ward sisters and has to resist the urge to duck behind Johnny in order not to be seen.
Johnnyâs hand is nervous against her back and on instinct, she turns to smile at him, seeing to her surprise a sheen of sweat prickling at the top of his upper lip, mingling with the straggling stubble of his moustache. His eyes seem very big in the dim light, the heat of his fingers lingering close enough to touch.
Behind their heads, she can hear the click and whirr of the film reel cranking audibly into life but ignores it. Johnnyâs fingers edge closer, the brush of skin on skin, his pulse hot and fast against her own.
âMay I?â The question is a hitched whisper in the silence, but still loud enough for a woman in a brown felt hat festooned with an emerald parrot feather to glare at them both and put a pudgy finger to her lips.
She nods once before realising that he canât see her.
âYes,â the word is a breath against her lips as his grip tightens, something small and hard slipping into her palm; nimble, calloused fingers pulling her fingers closed around it, the hairs of his moustache tickling slightly as his lips brush her knuckles.
 âOpen it later.â
She hardly takes in the film.
All she can feel is Johnnyâs warm weight beside her, the grip of his hand on hers, the weight of the mystery package hard in her hands, the ghost of his lips lingering against her skin.
It is only when they are outside again, shivering in the end of summer chill despite the fact that sheâs wrapped up in her dark blue nursesâ cape, her fingers gripping the handles of her bicycle so hard it hurts, do they talk.
âWell?â His eyes are glowing in the fading light, twin beacons amid the scrum of cinema-goers pouring back into reality. âOpen it, will ye?â
She can feel the expectation radiating off him in waves.
His excitement makes her nervous, even more when his hands reach over to bridge the gap between them, clasping her own.
Her own fingers feel numb and they fumble slightly against the ribbon, which she now sees is a soft, bright blue.
âTae match your eyes,â he seems abashed, but her heart is touched and she smiles at him, wordlessly conveying her thanks, trying not think about how Brianna will mimic that line for days once she hears, drawing out Johnnyâs torment with a roll of her eyes.
He kneels to her then,  arms gently reaching out to take the box from her before she drops it, deft fingers neatly undoing the knot.
She stares at him, all the words that she wants to say caught in a lump at the pit of her throat.
The ring glitters softly against the black velvet cushion; a simple, diamond band glowing in the dim light.
His eyes glow back into hers, his free hand reaching to grip her own, so that the bicycle wobbles dangerously, his fingers trembling over hers. The words that she knows from years of thumbing her way through her motherâs romantic novels will come next hang in the silence between them, words that she canât ignore but somehow, selfishly perhaps, wishes that she could.
 Could she marry him?
Can she see herself spending the rest of her life eeking out a living on the edge of the estate where she has grown up, in the two bedroom croft that Johnny would no doubt inherit from his father, the wife of a lowly bank clerk?
âFaith Janet Fraser, will ye do me the honour of becoming my wife?â
The words hang suspended for a moment before crashing to the pavement, never to be uttered again.
His grip on her hands tightens, squeezing so that the bones grind together.
 âI⊠IâŠâ
Her inner turmoil must have shown on her face, because he draws her close, his body reeking of that soft, male musk that she has become so accustomed to smelling in the wards, but never this close.
âYe dinna have to answer me now,â he says quietly; a small, shy smile trembling at the corner of his mouth. âAnd weâll haâ to go to your Da, in any case, to ask for his permission anâ a blessing.â He shudders slightly as he says it and she bites back a laugh at the image of Johnny MacPherson trembling before James Fraser in the dim light of the study.
âAyeâ, she says quietly, lifting her eyes to him, inwardly praying that her doubts are not as clear to read as she fears. âWeâll do that.â
Itâs late into the night by the time Johnny sees her home.
The lamps are burning low and she can just make out one winking glow in her fatherâs study; Jamie Fraserâs long shadow hunched over his desk, pouring over some papers that from this distance she canât decipher.
The ring feels heavy on her finger, her hands trembling slightly within Johnnyâs.
âAre ye feeling alright, Faith? Youâre trembling,â Johnnyâs arm wraps itself around her shoulder, shrugging off his coat.
âAye,â she whispers, unable to take her eyes off the figure of her father, trying not to think about his reaction to her news, but utterly unable to stop.
âItâll be all right, I promise ye.â
She tries to smile back at him, the gesture feeling hard and forced.
Ye dinna have to answer me now, heâd said, but weâll need to get the banns read soon and the Kirk organised andâŠ
Sheâd hardly heard him as he chattered onwards, pushing her bicycle down the long, white lane that snaked over the moor towards Lallybroch, twisting the ring over her finger; itsâ firm, hard weight alien against her skin.
Above their heads, the stars burn bright and clear against the dark velvet sky.
Help me, she thinks, her prayer a silent, desperate cry, lost in their great abyss.
Help me love him properly, like I know I should.
I dinna ken if this is what ye want for me. What I want for myself andâŠ
Please just let me love him.
Let me know if Iâm doing the right thing.

Can You See Me Now? Chapter 1
This is my newest Batman fic.
Summary:
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
After some nudging from Spoiler and Batgirl, Tim seeks out the Red Hood to ask the older teen for permission into his territory to follow up a lead. It was a small, innocent action but it was the starting point for both Tim and Jason to get to know each other.
But things are never as they seem and things always get better before they get worst.
Read it here on AO3
(Sorry to mobile users, the read more I put on the post does not seem to be working on the app)
âLook, Iâm just saying that there is probably more to everything than what Batman told you. Maybe the now not dead Robin isnât as bad as you think.â The young woman in the eggplant purple suit said for the seventh time in the last fifteen minutes.
âAnd I am telling you he broke into Titan Tower and beat me with my own bow staff, Spoiler.â Tim sighed, looking over at his Ex, feeling the dull burn of his broken ribs as he breathed in deep. âI know that Batman isnât telling me everything about what happened. Neither is Nightwing or Agent A. I am in the dark as much as you. But really, I think there might just be a chance that he holds a teeny tiny little grudge against me.â
Steph shook her head at him. âI know he beat you and I know something went down with the Joker but!â She held up her hand to stop him from saying anything over her. âI have looked into every kill and action he has made. From start to finish. While he has been incredibly violent, and well, bloody and stuff, he has not killed an innocent person. Everyone he killed were violent drug dealers and pimps who were hurting the working girls. Crime has gone down in his territory in the last month.â
Tim gave her a pained look. He knew that Jason Todd as the Red Hood was technically doing a lot of good for Crime Alley, a place that has not had a stable crime lord or hand controlling it since Bruce was still a kid. And with Bruceâs own personal dislike of the area because of what happened to his parents and the GCPDâs unwillingness to investigate anything that happens there, Crime Alley often went unchecked and unnoticed by everyone. The Red Hood had strict rules he was willing to enforce and from what Tim had managed to overhear so far, the people who lived in Crime Alley felt a lot safer with the Red Hood around.
But that still does not change the fact that Jason was completely unstable and willing to murder nearly everyone who got in his way. The former Robin was willing to take that extra step to make his point. There had already been at least fifteen cases of torture reported to the GCPD that they know about.
(Though most of those cases were of convicted paedophiles and child molesters and honestly, Tim could not really fault the former Robin for what he did there; he too occasionally got the urge to do horrible things to predators as well, though he himself never acted on it.)
Red Hoodâs official death toll was almost at sixty with the possibility of the GCPD finding more bodies every day. Crime Alley might be safer for the people who live there, but that safety was brought with blood and death caused by Jasonâs hands. It was not the kind of safety that would last long. Not in Gotham anyway.
At least Jasonâs vendetta against the Batâs had died down though after whatever happened with the Joker that night nearly a month and a half ago. Bruce was not willing to share what had happened and the older man deleted the Cowl Cam footage before anyone else had a chance to see it. The Joker still lived, which was unfortunate in his own personal opinion. Yes, Tim fully believed in Bruceâs âsave everyone you canâ view of the world but if he was to be honest, Tim would not grieve if the Joker was to be violently murdered by someone. Because really, that cockroach needed to die and just be stopped permanently.
âWhile I do agree that the whole, you know, serial killer-antihero thing is working in Crime Alley, it still doesnât change the fact that he beat me up and tried to kill B and N. I really donât think he wants me to come into his territory and act like we are friends or something.â Tim kicked a stone off the ledge they were standing on. Yes, he was still holding a grudge. But who could blame him really? He got beaten up by his predecessor while said predecessor wore an absolutely horrid copy of the original, green panties, Robin suit.
âIâm not saying go out and act like his friend, Robin!â Steph waved her hands again. âI am saying maybe you could extend the olive branch to him? Because from what you have told me, the guy was murdered in a pretty traumatic way, woke up in his own grave, dug his way out and then was more or less prisoner of those crazy assassin dudes who are obsessed with immortality? Maybe if you and the other Batâs give him a chance to talk and stuff without the Joker and explosives involved you could actually get through to him. Everything that he has done to you guys, have you considered perhaps it was a cry for help?â
Tim sighed. âWhen you put it like that you make us sound like a bunch of dicks you know.â He shook his head and slumped his shoulders. She was right. But only to a point. Jasonâs actions at the Tower and his anger at the Bats could be seen as a cry for help, especially given what they did know about the trauma that Jason went through. âBut it still doesnât take away the point that he attacked me and the others and while he hasnât made another attempt against me, he has fought B and Nightwing recently.â
âHe probably fought them because they were the ones who entered his territory.â Steph pointed out. That was also true, if Jason had come into his territory he probably would have attacked the older teen without a second thought. He could see the former Robin doing the same if Bruce and Dick tried to enter Crime Alley. âI get it Tim, I really do. He hurt you and that sucks ass. I am not saying that you have to forgive him or anything. I am just saying maybe extend the olive branch to him. You were saying before that one the leads in one of your cases, the one with the underground alien tech, was in Crime Alley, right? Let him know that you are following up on a lead and that you will not cause any trouble for him.â
He gave a low hum of thought at that. Timâs original plan for that case was to go out in the day, skipping his afternoon study hall at school and going to look for the tech without his gear. It would have been risky but there would have been a better chance that he would not run into the Red Hood. There also would have been a greater chance that he would have been mugged because he looks like a rich white boy with money (which you know, he is), but Tim was confident he could have taken on anyone who attacked him.
But going and asking for permission? Tim had not even considered that an option at all. And honestly, why would he? Jason Todd had made it clear that he hated his âReplacementâ and that he wanted nothing to do with the Bats and Birds of Gotham. How would the older teen react? He wondered. Would he attack Tim? Or would he let him pass?
âHey, if you donât feel that you can be near him with without him attacking you then you should just bring Batgirl with you.â Steph grinned at him behind her Spoiler mask. Smiling always looked so strange behind her mask but one can definitely see the outline of it. Tim could not help but roll his eyes at her words though.
âI am not bringing Batgirl with me like some kind of bodyguard. I am a grown ass vigilante, I donât need a bodyguard.â He wasnât pouting. He wasnât. He was nearly fifteen, he could take care of himself without Batgirl babysitting him.
âOh, come on! Batgirl wouldnât mind! Would you, Batgirl?â Steph looked over his shoulder, causing him to spin around and glare at Cassandra, who was standing a few feet away. He had not noticed at all that she was there and there was a small shock of panic and fear that went through him at that thought. He hates it when people manage to get the drop on him. Cass was the second best in the Bat family at sneaking up on people, right after Bruce.
âWe need to put a bell on you before you give me a heart attack.â Tim groaned out, covering his face for a moment. At least Cass never went out of her way to purposely scare him, unlike Nightwing had when Tim was first starting out as Robin. His situational awareness has improved since he was twelve, thank god, and Nightwing was now not able to jump out of the celling and scare him anymore.
Cass gave him a small snort. âAm not Catwoman. Donât need a bell.â The smirk looked as strange behind Batgirlâs mask as it did Spoilerâs. âI would be happy to bodyguard for you.â
Tim rolled his eyes behind his domino mask. Steph and Cass becoming friends was a horrible idea. He never should have encouraged it. They were both terrible together. Steph always had something to say or do and Cass was always happy to follow her new friend around, enjoying being a teenager like she should. Steph encouraged Cass to step outside her comfort zone and explore being a teen and Cass was willing to do most of the things that Steph suggested.
They were good for each other. But not good for his sanity, seeing as they roped him into following whatever crazy stunt they had planned.
âI donât need a bodyguard.â He whined at them both. He didnât need Cass to hold his hand. He could talk to Jason. And if he gets his ass kicked then he could just blame Steph for the idea and spend a week with the Titans licking his wounds.
Not literally. That would be gross. Why is that phrase even a thing?
âAm bodyguard now. No take backs.â Cass nodded, sounding pleased with herself and he groaned in annoyance. He doesnât need Cass babying him. He is Robin! Terror of the Night and Batmanâs partner. He hated being babied by Cass and Dick. They always pulled the âI am the older sibling and you are the baby of the familyâ card on him. He canât wait until he could be the big brother. One day he will give the Robin suit up and then he can be the one babying someone else. âWhy is a bodyguard needed?â Cass asked, moving to stand next to Steph.
Before Tim had a chance to say anything, his purple menace of an Ex-Girlfriend spoke. âTim is going to go and ask the Red Hood if he could go into Crime Alley. We need you to bodyguard him because we donât know if the Red Hood is going to beat Tim up again or not.â
Tim shook his head. âNames, Spoiler. No names on the field.â He reminded her, closing his eyes in annoyance. Steph was bad when it came to remembering the âno names on the fieldâ rule now that she knows his name. If he didnât know better he would say that she is doing it out of spite because he didnât tell her it himself.
And Cass was either going to be all for being Timâs bodyguard or she is going to be against it and honestly, he wasnât sure which one he preferred.
On one hand, there are a lot of advantages to having Cass actually guard him while he spoke to Jason. Mostly all of them were that she could kick Jasonâs ass. It wouldnât matter how skilled Jason now is, Cass would win.
On the other hand, if she is against it she could go and tell Bruce which would end up with him benched and on the receiving end of a cold shoulder and disappointed glare for the next month or so. And he would probably have several new trackers placed on his person without his consent. Because B can occasionally forget to use his words and just say âI am worried about you, please be safeâ out loud.
Mind you, Bruce is still a lot better at emotions than Jack Drake. Timâs father only really did emotions in small, but over whelming bursts. Which means Tim usually gets a weekend or two of father-son like interactions and then it is several weeks of âwe exist in the same house but are mostly strangers to each otherâ. Which is always fun.
Cass said nothing for a few moments, her head tilting to the side slightly as she no doubt read Timâs body language and seeing his hesitance and his inner monologue. âWhatâs in Crime Alley?â She asked finally.
âA lead to one of my cases. The alien tech one that I have been working solo on.â Tim explained. Cass had not yet said yes or no and he was still very much undecided on which way he wanted her to choose.
âCome on! Big bad Batgirl can definitely take on the Red Hood if he tries to hurt our Baby Bird!â Steph wrapped an arm around Cassâs shoulders. âAnd you guys can extend an olive branch to the guy by being nice and you know, asking to be let into his territory.â
Cass hummed, which once again was not a yes or a no. She gently shook off Stephâs arm and looked at both Tim and Steph. âWhy extend the olive branch?â She asked. âHe is a murderer. He kills people and makes Batman sad, here.â She pointed to her chest, right above her heart.
Whelp, thatâs an understatement. Anything to do with Jason Todd hurt Bruce. When Tim was first starting out as Robin he could barely mention Jasonâs name without Bruce completely shutting down. It had gotten better over the years. Sometimes Bruce would mention Jason in passing or would say something about how the young boy used to be. But now that it was known that the Red Hood is Jason Todd, things have gone back to the way they were at the start and Tim did not know what to do other than avoid mentioning Jason or the Red Hood all together.
âSpoiler believes that there is more to the story than what B has said and that there we should hear Hood out and let him tell his side of the story.â Tim explained with another sigh. He wondered how many times he was going to end up sighing in this conversation and thought to himself that perhaps he should stop doing so already because ow, his ribs do not like it when he sighs at all. âShe also believes there is a chance that his behaviour and actions could have been a cry for help and that we should perhaps try and talk to him instead of you know, fighting at any given chance.â
âYep! That is some good summary skills there, Ex-Boyfriend of mine.â Steph nodded and looked at Cass expectedly. The mask made it impossible to tell what Cass was thinking. Not that it was easy for him to read Cassandra without the mask but it was slightly easier without the frankly unsettling mask staring at you in the eyes.
There is a good reason as to why he would never go for a full-face mask when he finally is ready to let go of being Robin. And that reason is that is that he is more than likely going to see his mask in the reflection of a window or something and then forget that it is his mask and then scream in fear. Which you know, would ruin the whole serious vigilante look he would be hoping for.
Thus, he will probably only stick to a domino. Or a cowl. But a cowl is slightly too Batman like and Tim did not want to be Batman. He would have to think on this more in-depth later.
âCry for help?â Cass tilted her head again. âYou believe that the killing is his way of crying for help?â If anyone else had said that, Tim would believe that they were being dismissive or sarcastic. But Cass just sounded curious.
âWell, yeah.â Steph waved her hands carelessly as she began to explain. âI met him a few times back when he was Robin. He was a great guy. He was kind. Sure, he was a little bit rougher than Nightwing was when dealing with scumbags and stuff but he always stuck around to make sure that the victims were okay. All of his interactions with you Bats so far look like lashing out and cries for help if you ask me. I mean, he dressed up in a frankly fucked up Robin costume and beat up Tim. He was apparently angry that there wasnât a statue of him in the Tower like there was for all the other dead heroes and whatever the hell happened with the Joker and Batman was wellâŠâ She trailed off.
Tim shrugged. âNo one knows what the hell happened with those three.â And it wasnât from lack of trying to find out either. Bruce was tight lipped about the whole thing and the Joker apparently only laughed when he was asked what happened. Tim suspected that Alfred knew what went down because the older man had been very stiff and cold towards Bruce for several weeks and has only just started to warm back up to him again.
âYou think that we should reach out to him?â Cass asked. âShow him we can offer help?â
Steph nodded enthusiastically at Cassâs attempt to clarify what they were telling her.
âI do think that! And I think that Wonder Boy here is the best person to do it.â She gently punched Timâs shoulder as she said this, making him rock back a little close to the edge. Steph may not be a meta but her punches, gentle or not, were stronger than she realised.
âWhy canât you do it? He hates me.â Tim pointed out. He really did not understand why she wanted him to do this. Yes, getting permission from the Red Hood could open up a professional relationship between them where they could actively avoid each other unless they needed to do something in the otherâs territory. And yes, he could definitely see Stephâs point about how Jasonâs actions did seem like a huge cry for help.
But Tim has already been beaten once by Jason and he honestly did not want to have another round with the older teen. The fight between them showed Tim just how much he was lacking in his training and he could not help but feel a deep, festering bitterness that he would never be as good as Jason was. As good as Dick was. It was a bitterness he was trying to push away and forget about but it never seemed to go away.
Tim didnât want to offer the older teen help and then accidentally drive him away because he could not get a hold of his own mental health issues. Issues that he needed to actually address sometime soon, least he turn into Bruce. Or a supervillain. Either one would be bad for his health in the long run.
Steph punched his shoulder again, this time harder; causing him to wince because ow, why, that hurts. âBecause Boy Blunder, you donât have any history at all with him. Except for, you know, him beating you. And you are more than likely a trigger for him because you are now Robin. But still, you at least donât have a history like Batman and Nightwing do. And he knows nothing about you as a person! He probably only knows what he has read about you from the assassins he was with!â
âAll the more reason why you should talk to him and not me! You are a stranger to him, not me! Spoiler is new and not actually connected to Batman and Robin. And if you havenât noticed I am Robin and something tells me he does not like that I am Robin.â Tim waved his hands in what he could best describe as âI am emphasizing my point and you are not listening to meâ. He learnt this gesture from Steph when they first became friends and has used it a lot over the years.
âLook Tim; think about it like this. You are brutally tortured and murdered. You wake up in your own grave, dig your way out and are taken in by evil assassins. You spend who knows how long with said assassins and find out you have been replaced by a younger, better model who comes from the complete opposite background as you do. Your attempt to kill your murderer doesnât work and your father figure is a dick. How do you feel?â Steph put her head in her hands and sighed before continuing.
âYou need to be the one who talks to him because you are a Bat and someone who probably makes him feel like he was replaced by a better, richer model and that you are everything that he isnât. If you talk to him, show him you are an actual person and not some cardboard cut-out of someone who he wasnât, then maybe you could actually get him to talk about what happened to him and help him! Yes, I am a stranger to him and while we could get along and stuff he is going to need someone who is a Bat to speak to him at some point andâŠâ She groaned. âI messed up my point. Tim, you are someone who is actually a part of all of this mess. I am not. Just, go and ask him for permission to enter his territory. If he says no then he says no. I will go and follow up that lead for you if that is the case. But please, try at least.â
Tim groaned again and looked over at Cass to see what she had to say about all of this.
âYou,â Cass pointed at Steph. âYou want Robin to talk to Red Hood. Because Red Hood is hurting. And needs help. Robin means a lot to Red Hood. It was his name, who he was before the Joker killed him. If Robin shows that he is notâŠâ She waved her hand in a very vague but Steph like manner. âIf Robin shows that he is not who Red Hood thought he was then the Red Hood will feel less like he is replaced or⊠unworthy? Red Hood was a good Robin. Now he is not good as the Red Hood. Bad things happened to the Red Hood, made him hard and angry. Extending olive branch might help.â
âYes! Thank you!â Steph let out a low breath. âWhy are you guys so good at summarising everything?â
âNightwing.â Both Tim and Cass said together. Dick had a habit of not only rambling but also talking fast and without breaks. A habit of both his ADHD and from being best friends with a Speedster. Anyone who works or is with Dick for long periods of time learns how to summarise what he says.
It is a handy trick for Tim to know, seeing as he is also best friends with a Speedster and Steph has a habit of rambling herself at times.
âSoâŠ?â Steph trailed off and Tim, though he said to himself that he wasnât going to do it because ow, sighed and completely ignored the pain in his chest.
âIf Batgirl is willing to bodyguard than I will go and ask Red Hood for permission into his territory.â Tim felt slightly defeated. Â He wanted to keep arguing that he really wasnât sure that this was a good idea for either Jason or himself but at the same time he knows he would feel crap if he said no because Stephâs points were more than likely all true and-
And he did not want to be a person who ignores someone else who could be in need of help because he was selfish.
Tim has been lucky. Since becoming Robin he has had a wonderful support network that he has used a lot over the years and would never trade for anything in the world. Jason does not have that. Or at least Tim was pretty sure that Jason does not have that.
âI will bodyguard. Will only interfere if you are attacked. I will stay in the shadows and away from sight.â Cass said. âWe do this tonight, on next patrol. It is late now. Time for bed soon.â
Cass was right, it was getting close to four am and Tim was due back into the Cave in less than half an hour. He was thankful that he did not have any classes until nine am because he wanted to have more than an hour sleep when he finally got back to his home.
âOh wow. Today went quicker than expected.â Steph rocked back on her heels. âI am stuck in class tomorrow night but I expect to have at least three texts telling me how it all went from you both. Got it?â
Tim rolled his eyes but nodded. âYes, yes. Three texts. If I get beat up you are so making me waffles.â He pulled her into a quick hug.
âWhatever, Ex-Boyfriend.â Steph pulled Cass into a hug of her own and then was grappling away with a careless wave.
âDo you think this is a good idea?â He asked Cassandra quietly now that they were alone on the ledge. Cass looked at him, the eyes on her mask stared directly into his own white out lenses.
âI think⊠that there is a possibility that the Red Hood is falling without a net. And that his lines may have been cut by accident. By Batman. By Robin.â She paused and looked up at the dark sky. âWe can offer him a new line. And a net. Falling without a net or line⊠It is not good. That mindset. You feel like you are flying, until you hit the ground.â
Tim flinched at that imagery. Jason had been hurt by the Joker and whatever the hell happened with his resurrection and the League of Assassins. The trauma alone from that would be enough to make enough the sanest man go a little wonky. But whatever happened with B that night with the JokerâŠ
Whatever happened might have taken away his line, like Cass said. But Tim was not overly convinced that this is a good idea. Cass must have read his hesitance because she spoke once more.
âHe needs to see you as a person, like Spoiler said. Not just as a costume. He needs to see not Robin but you.â She gestured to his body. âWhen he attacked you, he was looking for reason as to why you were supposed to be better than him. He wanted to see, prove himself and you, that he was the better one. Because if he was not the better one, than him being replaced would have been a good thing.â
Tim frowned at that. He had not thought of it that way. While he could see the attack against him in the Tower as being a cry for help like Steph kept saying, he did not think to look as to the reasons why it was a cry for help. Steph and Cass both were good at getting him to take a step back and look at the full details of the bigger picture. He would certainly be lost (and probably more emotionally stunted) without them.
Tim knows that he should not use them as a crutch for explaining emotions and details that he may have missed about basic human reactions, but Tim was not ashamed to say that he did not connect with other people well and often missed simple emotional matters that should have been obvious to him. According to the internet, this was probably because he missed out on many key interactions with his parents due to them constantly traveling around the world and leaving him home with a nanny who discouraged most emotional reactions he had. Because his nanny believed that âboys donât do emotions like girls and he should man up alreadyâ.
Tim really, really needed to get his mental health checked out sooner rather than later.
âOkay. Yeah, I see your point.â Tim conceded. âWhat about you? Are you going to try as well?â
Cass hummed and nodded after a moment. âYes. Will try with Spoiler and Oracle. Give some space between us and you. Keep him from feeling trapped.â
He hummed in agreement and gestured to the edge that they were standing on. âI am heading back to the Cave. I take it you are going back to the Clock Tower?â He asked, feeling drained. This whole conversation and everything about it made him feel like he had fought off an energy sucking monster. He wanted to go back to the Cave, get into his own clothes and head back to his own home. Or maybe just crash at the Manor. He will see what kind of mood B was in when he got to the Cave.
âBack to Clock Tower.â Cass nodded again. âWill Comm you tonight. Find where you and Hood are. Go to bed.â She reached up and ruffled his hair fondly and then flung herself of the ledge with grace that only Nightwing could copy. He watched her grapple her way towards the Clock Tower until she was gone from his sights.
His bike was down in the alleyway below him and it would take him only a short time to get to the Cave from his location. Tomorrow, well tonight really, was going to be interesting to say the least. He would like to say that the growing pit inside his stomach was just anticipation and not the low level of fear at the thought of speaking to Jason face to face.
The Red Hood was volatile, dangerous and had a grudge against the Bats. Tim had no idea how this was going to go and it frightened him. Jason Todd could simply say yes or no. Or he could just shoot Tim in the head and Batgirl or no Batgirl there would be no stopping him if he does.
Normally, being in that kind of situation was sort of exciting. Like a free fall off the top of the Wayne Enterprises tower. It was a rush that left a bubbling feeling in his chest that just screamed âI am alive!â but he did not feel that right now. He just felt a low level of fear bubbling away in his stomach, making him feel nauseous.
Jason made it clear that he did not like Tim. Did not want to be near him or see him. The beating he had taken was not the worst one he had suffered through. But it had hurt him. Hurt him badly because this was Jason Todd. Robin. The boy who Tim used to follow around with a camera around his neck hoping to see in action.
What do you say to a person that had once been one of your heroes after they beat the living shit out of you?
Tim did not want to think about it at all right now. He needed to get back to the Cave and back home before B and his dad start to worry. He would think about it before he goes onto patrol. Not now while his head was clouded. But later when he was rested and ready for the night.

And with this chapter, we are officially over the halfway point in this story! A million thanks over for all of you who have stuck with this since the beginning, and a million thanks to those who've hopped on along the way. As I might've said before, this had been an idea in my head for a long time before it actually started to become something. It really means a lot that all of you are enjoying it so much :) I want to, as always, give an extra special thank you to @sotheylived, @queen-icicle-fandom, @shipsxahoy, and @captainswanbigbang. You know what you did ;)
Summary: Bouncing around with her son for the majority of her life, Emma Swan has told herself sheâs happy in the city. Itâs where the most camera operating jobs are, and thatâs how she makes her money. But when an old friend calls her and asks for her help on a new project in small town Maine, Emma finds herself in a place sheâs never been with people she doesnât know filming a profession she knows nothing about. But when the captain of the ship sheâs filming begins taking a keen interest in her and her life, she finds herself wondering whether she might just catch something other than fish. Deadliest Catch AU Rating: M Content warning: Character death, some violent situations

Chapter Thirteen
It seems like sheâs hardly taken a breath when Emmaâs settling into the corner of the couch at the Jones residence, watching one of the last commercials before their show - the one theyâve all put so much work into - airs. Crew dinner leads to crew drinks leads to both crews, Emma, Henry, David and Mary Margaret, Jefferson, Grace, and Ruby struggling to find a place to watch the premiere. Liamâs had to force some of the others into his room because not everyone could comfortably see the TV.
âNever thought Iâd be nervous to look at me handsome mug on a screen,â Scarlet says, taking another drink of his beer. âSoon Iâll be changinâ ma numba. Too many ladies wantinâ a piece of me.â
âSounds a bit optimistic, mate,â Robin jokes next to her. âNo woman will want to come close to Storybrooke once they know youâre here.â
A pillow flies toward them, narrowly missing her face, in insubordination, and the room breaks into laughter before the title card comes on the screen and Henry shushes them all.
Itâs the first time anybodyâs seen the full cut of the episode, including Jefferson, or even the title of the series. The executives decided on Sea of Chaos, and itâs a bit pretentious for Emmaâs taste, but if itâs what the execs want, sheâs not going to disagree with the people who sign her paychecks.
Tonightâs premiere is an hour, mostly introductions to the people and explanations of the trawling world with occasional sass. Well, more than occasional: it seems the executives wanted to capitalize on the nihilism and sarcasm popular with millennials and makes sure to include more quips than Emma thinks sheâs ever heard in one sitting.
(And thatâs saying a lot, seeing as she spends the vast majority of her time in the company of Joneses.)
Money exchanges hands during one of the final commercial breaks when they determine Whale is going to be the asshole of the series. A lot of it is going into the possession of Whale himself, and Emma canât be too stunned that he knows how much of an ass he is.
Overall, it goes off well. Everyone present is happy and excited for the next episode. On their way out the door, Jefferson tells her and David theyâll meet later in the week once the ratings come in.
âItâs look great,â he says, wiping at snowflakes that have caught in the fringe of his hair. âI have full confidence that itâs going to be a hit.â
âI hope so,â David says, wrapping his scarf around his neck. âYou already promised us a second season. No take backs on that shit.â
Emma chuckles, bidding them goodbye as she wraps herself around a complaining Henry.
âCâmon, canât I stay up a little while longer?â he pleads.
She shakes her head. âYouâve still got school tomorrow, as far as we know.â
Henry groans, dragging his feet in the little snow thatâs already accumulated. âBut August said that the weatherman said itâs going to snow a foot,â he argues. âAnd Killian promised I could sleep over the next time school was cancelled.â
âWell, Killian needs to talk that over with me before you do anything.â She nudges him in front of her. âAnd youâre going to school tomorrow. I feel it in my bones.â
Her bones, turns out, are wrong. When she switches off her alarm the next morning, all white greets her outside her window. She canât even see the road, can barely tell where the plow had already been through earlier that morning. A quick call to the automated school system hotline tells her that, since all the roads are closed and the sheriffâs department has issued a no unnecessary travel throughout the county, students get the day off. Theyâll make it up at the end of the school year.
Loathe as she is to leave her bed, Emma does, tiptoeing her way into Henryâs room. Heâs haphazardly sprawled across the mattress, already looking too small for her weed of a son. Placing a hand on his back, she leans over and whispers in his ear, âNo school, kid.â
âTold you,â he grumbles, turning his head further into the pillow and readjusting himself. Emma chuckles, moving the blankets so they better cover his body. Sheâll let him off this once, let him sleep in and enjoy the snow day. Itâs only January, but winter will come to an end eventually.
Emma finds out the hard way that Maine winters never end. Itâs still snowing significantly at the beginning of May and sheâs trying to prep for the next season of Sea of Chaos. Henryâs going on field trips every other day because the end of the school year is in sight and teachers know that no more learning is going to get done in the classroom, but even his field trips end up getting snowed out.
âThis has got to be one of the worst winters in history,â Robin says, watching even more snow fall from the warmth of his living room. Emmaâs over visiting  the Locksleys, mostly so Henry can distract Roland outside and give Regina some needed rest. Taking a sip from his mug of tea, Robin turns back to her. âSeriously, I donât know what gods you angered when you both moved here, but tell them to quit it. Weâre not going to be able to go out until next year at this rate.â
Emma shrugs, drinking from her own cup of hot chocolate. âI go where the money goes,â she says. âTake it up with whatever god patronizes that.â
0000
On the early June morning season two is set to start filming, a freak storm  - just rain this time, it seems the snow has decided to make its delayed exit - forms from nothing and the Jones brothers both think it best to stay ashore. Word on the radio says that the water is choppy, and swells were nearing record heights.
âItâs not safe for anyone out there today,â Liam tells her as they stand by the docks just behind his home. Water is already lapping vigorously at wooden planks they stand, and Emma makes a mental note to get a few seconds of that after she finishes this higher vantage point B roll.
âThatâs good,â Emma mutters as she looks into the viewfinder. âMake sure to say that when David sits you down later today.â
Liam chuckles. âNo weather can stop the show from shooting, does it now?â he asks.
Pulling back from her camera, Emma hitches it further up her shoulder before sinking to the ground. âIâve got a son. When youâve got a kid who has the reading ability and love that he does, youâve got to have the money to keep up with the habit.â
âYour boy could have much worse habits.â And itâs true: Henry could be addicted to video games. Or rather, more addicted. Sheâs just lucky that he enjoys imagining the story rather than watching it play out on a screen. âKillian was rotten when we were growing up.â
That piques her interest. âReally?â she asks in disbelief. âHow so?â
âOh, you know,â Liam leads. âBoys will be boys and such.â
âNuh uh.â Setting the equipment between her feet to steady the shot, Emma looks up at Liam, pulling the hood of her slicker forward. âYou and I both know that I donât stand for that logic. And you wouldnât bring up the topic if you didnât want to share a story.â
Grinning wide, Liam claps her on the shoulder. âHave I told you how much I enjoy your company, Emma?â
She shrugs. âNot today you havenât,â she concedes. âBut get to the point.â
Liam crosses his arms over his chest, leaning his head forward so his hood properly shielded him from the rain. âKillian was probably 12 when this happened. After our mother died and father left, I had to take on the role of parent and brother. But Killian just lashed out. He wouldnât come home at night.â He rolls his shoulders back and straightens up a bit. âI still, to this day, donât know where he ran off to sleep at night. But when I could wrangle him home, he spent the entire night downstairs in the living room.â Liam paused in the middle of his story to glance at Emma out of the corner of his eye. âWatching I Love Lucy reruns.â
âNo!â Emma gasps, to which Liam nods, his smile growing wider by the second.
âI would come down every couple of nights to make sure he was still there and there he was.â His words are tinged with laughter now, as Emmaâs sure that heâs seeing preteen Killian, wide-eyed and half asleep on their couch, in his mindâs eye. âI asked him about it once and he yelled and stormed off and didnât come home for three days. His teacher eventually sent him home because he smelled rancid.â With a shake of his head, Liam heaves a large side. âHonestly, itâs a miracle that he made it through any classes.â
âThatâs surprising for how smart your brother is,â Emma defends him, though she isnât quite sure why. âI mean, TV Land obsession aside.â
âItâs âcause he read all the time,â Liam says with a reluctant chuckle. âDuring waking hours, I never saw him without a book close by.â Crossing his arms, he sighs. âYeah, heâs a fool, but damn, do I love that nerd.â
âWhich nerd?â Both Emma and Liam turn to see Killian wandering toward them, footsteps stuttered as the mud sucks his boots in the ground. âIs my brother boring you with tales of Star Trek, Swan?â
âActually, he was telling me about you,â she tells him smugly. âHow you spent your late nights at the Copacabana with Ethel and Desi and Fred.â
Killian is stupefied. His jaw hangs from its joints and his eyebrows shoot up to his hairline. He looks at his brother with accusation. âI told you, you prick, that was the only thing on at that hour!â he shouts.
Liam shrugs. âWhatever you say, little brother.â He steps back, away from Emma and toward the house, with a slight bow. âWhatever you say.â
âItâs nothing to be ashamed of, Killian,â she tells him. âWe all do things when weâre desperate for distraction.â
âIâm not ashamed of it,â he corrects her with a shake of his head. Water droplets flick onto her face. âWhen I did watch it, I found it quite amusing.â He sighs and looks back toward the retreating figure of his brother. âI just wish my elder brother wouldnât go throwing out that story willy-nilly.â
âWell, it sounds like he watched Star Trek more than someone normally would,â she observes. âIâm not saying payback, but Iâm also not not saying it.â That gets a guffaw out of him, Killian leaning back and laughing toward the sky. Itâs a great sound, something that wards off the chill of the rain around them.
His laughter dies down and Emma sighs. âI should get back inside.â
âBefore you go,â he grabs her arm and gently tugs her back to look at the harbor. âThe last episode of the series airs tomorrow night.â
âIt does, finally.â Between award shows, holiday specials, and breaking news events, Sea of Chaos had been pushed back and interrupted more than originally expected. âAre you excited?â
Killian shrugs, his hands digging into the pockets of his jacket. âI have no real opinion on the matter.â He shuffles his feet a tad before looking at her. âHowever, I was wondering if you might want to come and watch it.â His eyes flit to the side. âWith me,â he adds, âalone.â
Pursing her lips to hide her smile, Emma raises a brow. âIf I didnât know you any better, Jones, Iâd think you were asking me out on a date.â
âNot a date,â he says quickly. âNo, if I was asking you on a date, you would know.â He shrugs again and looks out to the roiling water before admitting, âI miss our little sessions on the Jolly Roger.â
âWhat little sessions?â
âIn the captainâs roost,â he explains. âThe ones where you come up and bother me by asking questions and doing your job.â
âKillian, weâll have those little moments as soon as this weather lets up and we get out on the water,â she reminds him.
âMaybe I didnât want to wait until then.â He says it quietly, maybe hoping it would get lost in the sounds of the storm. But Killian shakes his head and gestures back to the house. âItâs fine, Swan. Iâll watch it with my prat of a brother. Iâll talk to you later.â
Turning to follow in Liamâs footsteps, Killian starts back toward the dryness of the indoors. He looks sad, a dejected little puppy caught out in the rain, and Emma can be cruel and play too many games, but not to him. Not when he looks like an animal out of an ASPCA commercial. She reaches out and manages to catch his arm.
He stops and looks over his shoulder at her. âYeah,â she says, nodding. âIâll bring the rum.â
His smile could stop the storm itself. In fact, Emmaâs surprised it doesnât. âNo need, love. Weâve got plenty of that.â
âIâm bringing it anyways. Iâm afraid Henryâs going to start getting adventurous and rebellious soon.â
Killian scoffs and shakes his head. âNonsense. Heâs 10. Besides, your lad wouldnât dare to disobey his mother.â
Both her brows raise up as she comes up next to him and they match their steps heading up to his house. âYouâd be surprised,â she grumbles. âI was pretty stubborn at his age.â
âSomehow, that doesnât surprise me one bit.â
Emma happily regales him with some of the stories of her youthful hijinks the next evening while lazing about on his couch during commercial breaks. She leaves out the part about Neal, stays in the realm of foster care and the time before Henry. There arenât many years to draw from, nor an array of good memories, but she shares them nonetheless.
Itâs nice, just hanging out with him. He doesnât try any funny business, of which sheâs a little bit confused about because the last couple times they were together, they were hard-pressed not to find a space more secluded. But itâs nice, having a more-than-friend to do whatever with, even if itâs just laughing at something stupid his brother said on camera that was supposed to be inspirational.
âI canât believe he said that!â Killian shouts, laughing so hard he smacks himself in the stomach. He grabs his phone and starts texting. âIâve gotta ask Dave if he actually said that.â
âIâm sure he did,â Emma tells him. âTalking heads are the one thing we donât really mess with.â
He cocks a brow and pulls at her foot, legs lying tangled with his legs across the couch. âThatâs good information to have, Swan. Thank you.â
âExcept the cursing,â she adds. âDonât go cursing up a storm because I will edit the shit out of that.â
âIâm a sailor, love,â he whines, tugging at her socked toes. âHow else am I supposed to talk?â
